Can't tell if this body quote is reasonable

My FR-S might be cursed.

I'm out of town for a month and loaned my car to a friend. Welp, of course, my friend got into a seemingly minor accident. That is, the other car looked like it was minor. Mine, however...

So, that sucks. Off it went to one of the insurance company's preferred body shops for an estimate. They came back saying it needs a grip of body work, and they won't say anything about suspension or frame until they get into it and see. My questions are:
  1. Is that reasonable? I don't want to accept their quote and then be on the hook if it turns out the wheel is turned in or something.
  2. Are the below prices reasonable-seeming? It all seems kind of low to me.
  3. Should I just go get a second estimate? At another of the insurance shops, or just some place I think sounds good?
These are just the (rounded) prices for the body panels, not the labor and paint. Total is about $4200, which doesn't seem like a _bad_ number, just... eh.

Bumper cover w/o fog lamps: 350
Radiator support: 460
Hood: 630

All in, the parts are $1833 of the total.

Looks like your friend rear ended the car infront of him. *aka he was driving too fast/too close to stop in time or he was playing with cellphones.

Dude, don't lend a car to someone who can't pass "passive" defensive driving 101. 80% of ppl in US think they know how to drive when they will fail most driving test in advance countries.

Oh ya & that quote sounds about right maybe just a little bit high, depends on how bad the radiator got push in or damaged + they will have to paint the bumper & hood. *unless you want them to get parts from junkyard, you should always get more then 1 quotes from other body shop too.

You should be glad the headlights are fine....Those are expensive.

Sorry about what happened, live and learn.

That actually seems low to me honestly. Total price anyways.

Parts prices seem spot on.

Yeah, I'm not 100% sure what happened there. I'm actually away for the month so this is all happening via phone camera pictures and calls. The pictures of the other car were just not bad at all.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear those numbers are about right. So, second question... just buy CF with the money? The shop the estimate is from isn't into that at all, but I'm sure I could find one that is.

I agree price looks low. Make sure your getting a quality repair. Like above the part prices look right but paint matching and install should run you around 2500-2700 total would be my estimate from the pics with labor. I'm in the Bay Area so I'm pretty used to getting stuck with super high prices however.

I had some damage to my hood from a falling tree and got that replaced through my insurrance. Hood was around 600-700 but the paint matching added a lot of cost. Total was 2200 for just hood replace+paint and minor front quarter panel dents.

Hope you get it repaired as good as new without breaking the bank. Good luck man.

They told you up front that they will not have a final total until they take it apart.
That's for the damage they can see right now.
If there are other things wrong later on, the final price for the repair will be adjusted.

No point in sweating right now. It will be handled. It's how the system works.

Why not take it to another shop for a second opinion?

Is this your insurance co. or your friends?

'cause mostly, I wouldn't be absorbing that if it was for my clone.

Price shouldn't matter if your insurance is covering it. They'll pay what they have to pay and you'll have to pay your deductible. Your insurance will raise your rates accordingly.

Your friend owes you lots of $$$ because your rate will go up for years.

And that's the good news.

The bad news is that if the person(s) they hit claim medical injury, which they more than likely will, all that falls on your insurance as well. Medical bills will be more expensive than the vehicle repairs themselves. If it hits your maximum, then YOU, not your friend, are on the hook for anything over that.

Good Luck OP, and don't lend your car to people w/o insurance.

Yeah. Car's covered, though it would use the friend's insurance first, if it existed.

Y'all, I know about the situation with my friend It sucks. I knew I was lending it to someone without insurance. I know I'm in for the deductible, and I know my rates will go up (though I'm seeing what their accident forgiveness looks like, as this is the first ever for me). Medical from either side doesn't seem to be a problem, though I know that could crop up later, and I'm stuck with it.
