Not quite custom, but in Ontario, we have 4 letters followed by 3 numbers on our standard plates now.
When I got my BRZ, I was unfortunate in that I didn't get the "BRZx xxx" plates.
But now we're into the "Cxxx xxx" plates, and there are other 4-letter c-words I'd prefer not to have on my license plate.

They won't make the plates with the combo of letters that make bad words.

There is a rather long list of prohibited letter combos someplace. They will not personalize or automatically make anything on the list. Some of the banned words are sort of funny. My father in law wasn't allowed to have the plate "Lil Toot" (from his favorite song) since it implied drug use.

Saw this great article on a driver in NC who always had personalized plates with fruit names. She was able to get the plate "Kumquat" and kept it for years, until she got a letter in the mail from the DMV saying she needed to prove why her plate was important to her or else it would be removed

For the Cantonese folks on here; today in front of me in traffic there was a Merc CLA with a plate reading "U ONLUN9".

I have no idea how he got thru the MTO to get a plate like that. Probably wants a death wish.
