BRZ/FRS - when they lose their charm...

Hey guys,

What happens when the BRZ and the FRS lose their charm? I have a feeling that it'll be like the newest celica when it came out in 2001(?) and now we see that car EVERYWHERE and its not at all special anymore.

Can you list a bunch of cars that have never or will never lose their charm? I think the S2000 is one, and the lotus exige is another because these cars are so darn rare.

I have a feeling that I will just jump ships 2-3 years later.

No ... and it never will.

I had an RA28 Celica and still think they are a stylish piece of gear.

A 2001 Celica was never anything but a turd.

Cars don't lose their charm, people just say that when they realise they were originally wrong about them.

I don't understand this line of logic. How does someone else having the same car suddenly make your car any better or worse. Does it negatively affect your cars acceleration, handling, or braking when you come into close proximity to other cars of the same model? If you enjoy your car why does it matter if it is "everywhere"?

I, for one, hope the FR-S/BRZ twins are everywhere because that means toyobaru sold a shit ton of them and now they have money to continually improve the car. If you don't see a lot of them that may make it " super cool rare car yo", but it also means it was a sales disaster that toyobaru will probably pull the plug on after one genertion and we'll have to wait another 20 years for them to bring back sports cars to the masses.

Marloon,

When something is special, it's special. Part of what makes something special - really special - is that it has a timeless quality. I think these cars have really got "it." I know my response seems vague, but maybe I can clear it up by saying when people sell these cars in the future, I have a feeling that there will be a high probability of regret shortly after the sale.

I still feel that way about my Integra.

Yeah, I don't think it will lose its charm. Maybe to those who are buying just because it's the new car on the block but for most of us, this car will always be something special. Just like my Eclipse GSX. That car is 12 years old (17 years if you start from the first year 2G model) but it still has more "charm" than any new car currently on the roads IMO.

I think every BRZ coming to the states will be sold.

The only thing I see happening is Subaru saying "Can you imagine how much more profit we could have made to meet demand of the car? We need to make more and also address concerns/reasons that prevented others from not buying."

If you wanted a car with exclusivity you shouldn't have bought one designed to be accessible.

Yep, I just worry the car's popularity will drive up the price. Hopefully other manufacturers will see the demand for these cars and starting developing more lightweight RWD cars for the US before Subaru/Toyota start price gouging.

i think the OP assigns too much exclusivity to a car that wasn't supposed to have it

not really anyway

the original AE86 was a corolla, there were a ton of them made, the only reason it's exclusive now is because having a car built to last 10 years max is somehow still in demand 25 years after the fact!

also i'll disagree about the Celica.. maybe the bare-bones silver one is common, but any time i see a gt-s or that red-flame TRD special i kinda go "awesome".

i think your hipster dial is set to 11, gotta turn that down bro.

Be sad because many people have one?! why?? I don't get it honestly, because if your the only one to have a car, with who are you going to do meetings and talk about different modifications and upgrades for your car? When cruising on the roads, who are you going to wave hand? Like the subaru guys, or the jeep guys?
