Not bad on the price. I was worried this might end up closer to $40k base. IMO:

...vs. STI, I'd buy the FoRS for the superior practicality of the hatch
...vs. Golf R, I'd probably go with the FoRS for rear-sliding shenanigans and more power

Either way, there are some great options in this segment now. Good time to be a hot hatch buyer.

Will this be a limited production car or is it safe to assume that the RS will be around for a couple of years at least?

This isn't like a release series it's a whole new model. Will be around until it no longer sells and is no longer feasible.

Unless it absolutely does not sell in any market they'll keep it until the next focus comes out, probably sometime around 2020

Ford Focus RS Does 0-100 KM/H In 4.7 Seconds, Hits 266 KM/H [w/Video]

Ford has finally revealed performance specs for its fastest RS model ever at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The all-new Ford Focus RS sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 266 km/h (165 mph).

The Focus RS is powered by a specially engineered version of Ford’s new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine delivering 350PS (345hp) at 6,800 rpm and 440Nm (324lb-ft) of torque between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. During hard acceleration, an overboost function lifts torque to 470 Nm (347lb-ft) for up to 15 seconds.

For the first time ever, the Focus RS features Launch Control technology. To use it, the driver selects Launch Control from the cluster menu, engages first gear, applies full throttle and then releases the clutch. The system then optimizes acceleration by distributing torque through the AWD system, maintaining maximum torque using turbo overboost function, managing the traction control system, and setting the dampers.

Another premiere for the new Focus RS is the Ford Performance AWD system. It uses twin electronically-controlled clutch packs to manage the car’s front/rear torque split, and can control the side-to-side torque distribution on the rear axle.

Drivers can select four different Drive Modes that configure the AWD system, damper controls, Electronic Stability Control, steering and engine responses, as well as exhaust sound. Normal, Sport or Track settings are available, alongside a special Drift Mode.

The Focus RS will be built in Saarlouis, Germany, with deliveries for European customers expected from early 2016. The model is now available to order in Europe, with prices in Germany starting from €39,000 ($43,885).

2016 Ford Focus RS leaps to 62 in 4.7 seconds, starts at $36,605

Quote:
We don't have to wait for the numbers to leak onto Ford's website again because the Blue Oval is now officially confirming that starting price of the 2016 Focus RS at $36,605 in the US, which includes $875 for destination. That money buys quite a quick hot hatch too – the RS with at least 345 horsepower can sprint to 62 miles per hour in mere 4.7 seconds and eventually reach a top speed of 165 mph.

The 4.7-second blast bests the 0-60 times from lower-powered competitors like the Subaru WRX STI (5.1 seconds) and the Volkswagen Golf R (4.9 seconds). A few high-horsepower Europeans could outrun it, though, including the newly upgraded 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG (4.1 seconds) and Audi RS3 (4.3 seconds to 62 mph).

A combination of launch control, all-wheel drive, and torque vectoring at the rear axle might make that quick acceleration consistently achievable, too. Drivers just select the option from a menu, put the hot hatch into first gear, floor the gas pedal, and let off the clutch. The car rockets away, and a shift light on the instrument cluster illuminates at 5,900 rpm. It starts blinking at the 6,800 rpm redline.

We just need to get through the winter to see which car wins in a real-world drag race. The Focus RS is being built in Saarlouis, Germany, and the first North American deliveries are expected in the spring of 2016. Ford isn't talking options yet, but the previous leak suggests things like navigation, leather seats, a sunroof, and 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires will be available.

Ford Focus ST Gets 275PS Mountune Performance Kit In The UK Too

Click here to view more photos

Quote:
US and mainland Europe customers are not the only ones who can buy a factory-fitted Mountune performance kit for their Ford Focus ST hot hatches.

Ford has announced that the performance upgrade from engine tuners Mountune is from now on available in the UK as well. The kit increases the power output of the Focus ST’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine from 250PS (247hp) to 275PS (271hp) and does not affect the vehicle warranty – provided that it is fitted by a Ford dealer.

The upgrade kit from Mountune includes a large capacity alloy intercooler, low-loss cast crossover duct with silicone hose, high-flow dual-entry air filter and specially developed performance-map calibration. The package not only produces a 10 percent increase in maximum power output at 5,500rpm, but also an improvement in torque from 345Nm (254lb-ft) to 400Nm (295lb-ft) at 2,750rpm.

Mountune’s MP275 upgrade kit is priced at £1,195 ($1,814) including VAT plus fitting, which takes two hours.

“The 2015 Focus ST 275PS upgrade is the latest addition to a wide range of Ford Performance parts and accessories from Ford dealers. It enables Focus ST owners to experience even more impressive performance, while offering the reassurance that the upgrade will not affect warranties,” said Kevin Griffin, Ford of Britain sales director.

Speaking of the RS, I really need to get off my ass and find a dealer who will sell it without an ADM. Order banks open on Monday.

My wife recently ordered a Fusion, next time we go to the dealer I think i'll be asking about placing an order for an RS and see if our sales guy can work anything if we buy 2 cars from him.

Anyone see anything about how much it weighs?
