From what I understood at the service centre, the buzzer is inside the meter console. So you need to remove the console from the car Dash and open up the assembly.

I was hoping for a fuse or something that would disable it.

P.S. - This is on the list of things to do. Can someone help with the approximate pricing of a new meter console for the 86?

Ok, this took my over 18 months to get around too, but in a matter of 30 minutes all speed chimes are removed. very simple process actually.

No more beeping while at the track!!!

Revo, where do our american cars start chiming? I've broken 105 mph (168 kph) and it's never chimed on me.

On a side note, the AE85 and AE86 both chimed at speed too. I kind of found it endearing on the track and wouldn't mind so much if Emi did the same.

Celadrielas, this seems to be a Middle East region thing. Japanese 86's chime from 100km/h, our do it from 120km/h. Problem is you can drive at 140km/h on the highways so the chime is going all the time.

Azooz, actually quite simple. Take the instrument cluster out, take it apart, remove needles, take face off, remove about 8 screws, and open. Then just taped up the speaker with ductape and problem solved.

The whole process took about 30 minutes.

The overspeed chime indeed is a Gulf thing. All Gulf spec cars have this... which sucks. My Chevy Caprice only beeps once like you have mentioned but I can't stand the constant beeping from Japanese cars!!

I'm planning to buy a BRZ in Saudi Arabia so I also need to disable this speed chime once I buy my car. I'm assuming the chime speakers will be the same as GT86's.

I have one question... will disabling the overspeed chime also disable other chimes and/or sounds? Is this speaker in the instrument cluster responsible for only overspeed chime?

Yes, the overspeed chime is in the instrument cluster. It is also used as the chime for the seatbelt. I ttok mine apart and covered it with about 4 layers of ductape. Now you cannot hear it at 120, but you can still here if standing still, barely. So the seatbelt chime works fine.

Thanks. I will need to get this done once I get my BRZ. I'm actually picking up a barely used '15 tomorrow.

Yes, just take the instrument cluster out, take it apart and tape up or disable the speaker.

Bringing this one back to life. Does anyone know if swapping instrument cluster from another region's 86 or BRZ will solve the problem? I don't want to tape up the speaker because I want to be able to hear the shift warning beep.
