BRZ/86 Sales Discontinued in China
New BRZ/86 will no longer be sold in China. What does this mean for the future of the twin? No 2nd generation? Toyota/Subaru pulling the twin out of one of the largest markets, this has to mean something.
Any industry experts here want to shed some light? |

I couldn't find anything in English when I googled but here is one article: https://kknews.cc/car/39p9jlo.html.
https://www.google.com/search?safe=o...k1.8MYADi2q83k Use Google Translate if you can't read Chinese. My concern is that Toyota/Subaru will be less motivated to invest in 2nd gen knowing Chinese market won't be viable for the Twins. |

A large majority of these cars are sold in the US, Also a large portion of those cars are sold in California. Subaru has pretty much no presence in China. The import tax is around 200% No reason to buy a car that isn't practical as your only car... if you could afford a 2nd or 3rd car, a Miata would be the better choice. It's easier to discontinue sales instead of carrying parts. In other news, Buick is a popular brand in China. That also means nothing. |

I hope it doesn't mean anything but when 2 automakers pull out the twins from the 2nd (?) largest market, it's at least news worthy I'd think.
Subaru might be a small player in China but Toyota isn't. Strangely, after they announced the pullout, prices have gone up significantly like 20-30%, so there are some demand. Buick being popular in China has saved GM from dose diving into the ground and brought a few interesting models to the US e.g. Regal turbo, wagon, which few Americans care about outside Michigan. |
