I'm pretty sure that when they started talking about this project, it was well *under* that amount (2000lbs? 2200lbs? can't remember). It's only in the past 2 years that the expected weight has been increasing steadily ("under 2800? under 2600?"). Remember, a MINI Cooper S weighs 2660lbs, and an MX-5 weighs less than 2500lbs. If they're talking about not even including a CD player to save weight, I'm wondering what else they're working on... roll-up windows? No spare tire? Less sound insulation? Etc.
I said it at the beginning of this that if Toyota can't match/beat the MINI Cooper S on weight (2600lbs), hp (181hp) and price ($23k) they really should reconsider the project. It looks like Toyota's well on it's way to achieving those goals, though.... |

I would interpret his response, "You will be pleased in that case, maybe" to mean that the car will fall between 2,600 and 2,800 lb. My guess is that it we'll see it come in around the 2,700-2,750 lb neighborhood. If the engine really makes 200 hp, that should make for an amusing little car.

I wonder if they can strip out the AC too? Mine broke a few years ago in my car, and Since I travel mostly highway I'm used to carrying the dead weight. GIMMIE SOME BARE BONES.

No, AC will come on it standard. This is being marketed to the general consumer as well. You think this car will survive without AC? Ha. Try driving in the +100 weather + humidity without AC. It sucks. You don't want AC, take it out yourself and save the weight. If rumors are true, Toyota has been spending a bit of time designing the AC to be as light as possible.

How do you pick up any ladies or if married how does your wife even drive with your smelly and sweaty butt?
Yeah but those are the cheap under $17k cars. All of the other Scion cars come with AC. Look at the other sporty cars priced in the $22-25k range. All have AC standard. |

So I don't know much about subie motors, I'm new to the whole flat 4 universe in general. Anyone know if the EJ257 would fall under the "direct swap" category?
Plans: if the EJ257 mounting points are the same then that'll be the engine swap as soon as warranty expires. if the EJ257 doesn't have the same mounting points then I'll just have to put work into the EJ20 and try and manage at least 350 to the wheels. Something about 350 to the wheels of the expected 2600-2750lb FR-S is guarenteed to pitch a few pants tents. Last edited by SVTSHC; 07-19-2011 at 01:24 PM. Reason: BECAUSE! That's why. |
