So I began considering alternatives.
that was when brand new cars were available in dealership. now, the situation is different. most of the s2000 owners beat up their cars and a lot of them have crashed, so good condition vehicles are becoming less and less in the market and price went up for sure.

1. The soft top. The car looks like crap with the top up. Plus I always worried about it getting slashed and seats stolen. And it wears out over time and pricey to replace.
2. No back seats and small trunk.
3. Bad in snow. This applies to all rwd sports cars.
1. I think it looks great top up or down, but subjective
2. Small trunk, but big enough for a medium suitcase and decent size squashable bag, with room for a hanging bag or other on the tray behind the seats. You can do weekend trips with another person.
3. My S2000 has been GREAT in the snow on winter tires. I've dailies mine through snowy MA/RI winters since 2007, no problems, hugely entertaining . Mid and rear engine sports cars can do even better. FR-S/BRZ are at something of a disadvantage here due 54/46 weight distribution, but still dedicated winter tires should make snow driving possible and FUN.

I love that he owned the car for 7 years, DD'd it, and only has a few small complaints about it and yet you still have to defend the car against those few small shortcomings... Is it okay if the S2000 isn't perfect in every way?

I was only going to reply about the "all rwd sports cars suck in the snow" comment at first. Totally NOT TRUE. S2000 is pretty brilliant in the snow, on winters. 2wd 911s kick ASS in the snow, even on all seasons, moreso on winters. But as long as I was commenting I thought I'd give my impressions on the other points as well. Based on my usage over 7 years 130k miles as my daily in Mass/RI.

Yes. But as far as the snow driving complaint goes, the FR-S/BRZ ARE inherently worse. 49F/51R rwd is going to get around in the snow a lot better than 54/46 rwd.

I did get around for quite a few winters on Blizzak LM22s. I guess it wasn't all that bad, just not as good as fwd/awd :-B

I owned an '05 and '07 S2000 and I liked the car. Paid about $28,500 for it brand new, and that wasn't too hard to accomplish in 2007, nobody wanted them. Fast forward to today, and you will see many low-mileage ones priced at about that much with <30K miles on them. Of course there are a few junk heaps with 90K that have been wrecked twice for $10K, too.

The S2000 is why I wanted to try the BRZ. I liked the car even though it wasn't fast. Mainly the things I didn't like about it were the lack of feedback from EPS (EPS has come a long was since) and I just wasn't really into convertibles. Too much road noise and the visibility with the top up wasn't very good.

So the BRZ seemed to me like it would be a lot like an S2000 only in a coupe with a little extra storage space.

So far I'm pretty happy with it, relatively. I would have liked to get my AP2 up to around 300 HP at the crank but as I recall you didn't get much HP without FI, and that seems to be the way to go with the BRZ. I wish the BRZ were 300 HP stock, but I really don't know how Subaru would do that. I really don't think a turbo suits a car like this, I would prefer predictable, linear power like from a supercharger. So, I guess that part is up to me.

If I were building a track car I'd probably start with one of those ratty AP1's for $10K.

Yeah I bought my 06 new for 31,500 otd (forgot what that meant on the car itself but approx 29k or so IIRC). Sold it 2 years later with 19k for 19,500. And it sat for AWHILE before moving. Values have gone back up now that you can't get a new one at or under invoice. And 2008 was a really bad time to sell any toy vehicle.

Ouch.

Yeah I think I got 21,500 for mine when I sold it. It had like 8K miles. I should have kept it.

In this video of a couple psychos in traffic the s2000 seems to be almost pivoting in place as he weaves. can a twin move like this?

Sure, the drift guys have setups that can do that. Crank your suspension down so there's no body roll and then use swaybars until it's so tail happy that the slightest corner will get it to rotate.

Only one I could think of is a low mileage CR in pristine condition?
