Cool Help with using stock amp for sub

Hi All,

I have no desire to keep the rear speakers going. All I want to do is stop base from going to doors and dash and re purpose stock amp to power a sub.

here are the items I am thinking of using... will this work? Will I need a crossover too? Better to replace stock amp with a four chanel amp with a hi pass filter in it and use 2 channels for stock rears and bridge the other 2 to a 10 inch sub?

Your thoughts?

Sub

speaker to RCA

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There are 6 speakers. 4 (4")powered by the head unit and the 2 (6") door speakers powered by the tiny amp in the trunk. This is not a sub amp. Iit barely powers two weak 6" speakers.

Get a sub amp for your sub. Would you try and use the 6" speakers as subs? No. So don't use the miniscule amp that's for them on a sub.

I have a 4 channel amp. 2 chanels are hooked to my door speakers with the high pass filter on. The other two channels are brigded to my 10" sub. I am using the low pass filter on my sub.

I replaced all my speakers. I replaced my Head Unit too. So, if you can, use your Headunits crossover to adjust the dash speakers frequency.

I used to install car stereos. I have done over 100 custom installs.

IMO, line out converters are Garbage. I have always had problems with them. If at all possible, use RCA out from the head unit. THe stock deck has RCA out.

Thanks. That makes sense to me. What wattage amp do you recommend for the sub I have linked to in OP?

Im using a 4 channel powerakoustic amp 4x125rms. Powerakoustic amps, IMO, have good sound, good power, and a good price.

Your sub, is a space saving sub, and will sound great with 200-300rms watts.

I bridged half to my sub and am running the door speakers with the other two channels.

Most 4 channel amps, when bridged will be plenty.

Just so you know the 14' and up head unit does not have RCA out. The 13' was the only ones with them.

What I suggest is get an 4 channel amp with speaker level input that way you do not have use a line converter. Tap into the signal going into the OEM amp for the aftermarket amp. All that can be wired in the rear at the OEM amp. Now just do as you plan with the aftermarket amp; 2 channels for the fronts and 2 channels bridged for the sub. There is a pretty good thread here about wiring for the OEM amp and how it is routed this way you know which wires to tap into.
