Still acquiring parts. I just bought a house so it pushed back the completion date to early next year. I bought the engine/transmission mount kit from vorshlag, as well as the driveshaft and transmission. Next is all the electrical, brakes, clutch, fuel system, exhaust manifolds and cats. Engine will be purchased last.

I'm pretty sure it's 8 years/80k miles.

4 Stock exhaust manifolds and exhaust until after the last O2 sensor. Both confirmed no cutting welding or modifying those parts. This will require a test fit. If anyone has tried to fit them let me know. I was thinking turn them around backwards if the cats dont clear then run just the exhaust pipe through the opening between the firewall and subframe and steering shaft.
I am going to say this is your largest hurdle. The steering shaft is right in the way for pretty much every factory header i have looked at, except the c6/c7 vette as they come straight down. I remember someone saying they still needed a bit of modification to clear the engine mounts. Then the issues of factory cats being not far behind and decent sized.

I was thinking to run the manifolds on opposite sides of the motor the exit from the manifolds will exit at the front of the block close to the radiator, hopefully leaving enough room for cats between the manifold and firewall.

I won't know until mock up. If it works I will switch it out for something better( for off-road track use ) after I get the sticker.

Oh yeah, your close. I would enjoy checking out your progress when you get rolling. Figuring this swap out for California would be so cool.

Do you know if we need to stick with carb exhaust manifolds and stock cats only. Or do we need to stick with the exact exhaust system to the cats? (Meaning can we modify the exhaust pipes between the manifolds and the cats?)

Congrats on the new house.

It has to all be the stock setup unmodified from the manifolds to the end of the cats for the engine you plan on putting in. Putting on carb approved parts should be legal but they prefer oem parts.

You will have to roll by when I get going on it. I will be posting progress on the swap and how the ref goes. If I can or can't get it done.

once you get the swap plate...

Just because someone interprets it one way doesn't make it legal. The last thing you want is for someone to interpret his/her way, and your swap goes down the tube later down the road.

I've been involved in this process many times... the first part is the engine needs to be same model year or newer than the vehicle it is going into. And yes, the whole "interpretation of what needs to be on the car" is basically meeting the legal requirements of the California ARB, i.e. "CARB legal"..

Once you've got the carb swap plate mounted on your car, you're golden.

You could probably put a 5.3 iron block truck lq4 in your car if you blow the ls3 and you'd be good.

It's going to be a LT4 from GM performance. It would be easier, and cheaper to do a LS3, but I'm looking for highest HP OEM motor I can afford. Almost got the stacks ready to blow on this thing.
