Winter + Daily Driver Oil Selection

Hey guys,

this is for the engine oil, transmission oil and differential oil.

Engine Oil, I wanted to go max performance or performance plus with Amsoil
0W20
I also wanted to get Mobil 1... I am very hesitant. I don't know which to pick. I did go over the form but no one really covered winter perks.

For transmission and differential I will go Motul Gear 300. Do I have to get Motul Gear for LSD??

Should I buy those fluids for my car concerning I am a winter driver and for summer I am a daily driver (and spirited)?

Castrol professional OE or even their titanium is a muchbetter oil just so you know. The OE stuff can only be bought at some cardealers but the titanium is easier to find. It is around $15 or $16 per literthough so I hope that doesn’t matter. Iam also not a fan of motul, but each to their own.

I will look for, but I checked on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com (I prefer .com) I couldn't find the OE.... nor the titanium

Try canadain tire or part source for the titanium. Yeah the OE is very hard to find but it is the best. Do a little reading on them I am sure there is lots out there.

Edge is a lesser level but still very very good oil. Anything in a gold bottle from castrol is top tier quality and I would run it. I am also an oil nazi so I have to run the best and do UOA every 5,000km lol!

Here is my UOA see how the silicon (dirt) drops as my air filter gets dirtier haha!

Edit: I should add I drive my car very hard. I go WOT many times a day. My driving habits are why I change my oil so often.

I've been using M1 0w-20 AFE for the engine and Motul 300 for the transmission/rear diff. Have over 20k miles now (with about 20 track days thrown in), no problems.

I'm planning to switch to Castrol Edge 0w-30 for track days, but that's mainly to compensate for the pressure loss from the Perrin oil cooler. Still planning to use M1 0w-20 AFE for the winter/non-track season.

Re. Motul Gear 300 oil, I haven't really noticed a big difference from the factory fill, but that's not a bad thing. I do have some peace-of-mind knowing it should hold up to track temps better. No need to get LSD-specific oil btw.

Check out this link from Subaru Japan's website. Some Google translate may be needed if you don't read Japanese
http://www.subaru.jp/accessory/engine_oil/engine_oil/

and out of all these options it seems this 0W-30 is the bet all-around (e.g. cold weather starts, high temperature engine protection, bumper to bumper stop and go traffic), and lists BRZ specifically listed as a suitable car:

Since the car is NA, the oil is not as big an issue. Any good brand of 0w20 will do. If you are tracking it then you might need a better oil. But for DD the main brands will be fine. I personally use the Subaru stuff 0w20 and get it from Amazon.
