2017 BRZ Magellan Starlink GPS
I know the starlink app is absolute crap, but I am still a little interested in the Magellan GPS feature available to the 2017 cars. I have a horrible sense of direction lol. Have any owners out there tried this new feature and care to share some initial impressions?

I've tried it and it's really not very good. It always takes me at least 2 attempts to get the navigation app to load (thats after the multiple attempts to get the headunit to recognize the starlink app on my phone) and once it's up, the bluetooth connection becomes even more sporadic than it already is. Sometimes I can get bluetooth audio and navigation to work at the same time, but on other occasions the music stops/skips or the nav app loses connection to the phone. For reference, I've got an iPhone 7 Plus.
The navigation app itself would have been acceptable 5-6 years ago but it's really outdated and slow feeling for something supposedly new. The standalone Garmin GPS I bought 5 years ago is actually more responsive. All in all, I wish I hadn't spent the $30 on it. Your best bet is to buy a standalone GPS unit or get a phone mount and use google/apple maps. |

You must download the latest Starlink App on your smartphone, then plug your phone in via USB. Then, press the STARLINK app on the headunit. The other new apps like Glympse, Yelp, eBird, and other apps work too. Spend like 10-15 min playing with it haha

I agree-- have not used it for navigation (bought access yesterday) but it does seam slow and the overall access via the Starlink app is a crap shoot as CJRhoades mentioned. Have a long road trip coming up so maybe my opinion will improve.
