I find stop and go traffic easier with a manual. Autos are annoying, won't idle slow enough and require braking. I'll often commute 45 minutes in stop and go traffic and not touch the brake( or the clutch).

yes! this is possible. best scenario is something breaks on the "slush" within the 5 year window of the driveline warranty.

yes! this CAN be done, however it's aggravating in traffic, but it cuts down on the engagement of the "throw-out" bearing over time, which may,or may not be an issue,as they are designed to last for a long time anyway.

I just traded my silver auto fr-s for a new asphalt manual fr-s! I'm so much happier

I completely agree with you OP and understand 100% the people who say the manual is the only way to go. However the auto was definitely great will stand by that I just can't believe the difference.

Its like a completely different car (in a good way)!

Lucky bastards. You're on your second FRS/BRZ just because it had a different transmission than what you wanted. I'm patiently waiting to get my first. One more year, just one more year...

Enjoy it for me.

No way. Thunderhill. I'll drive both cars and we'll see which I can be faster in.

Resale on the manual will be better. You can buy an auto Miata for cheaper than a manual. Same will happen to the 86.

I've driven three different manual FRS.. I just don't see the whole, it's a different car aspect.. They might.... Might have accelerated a bit better.. But unless you acting like "that guy" around every street corner.. I don't see the its a whole different car thing.. Maybe driving manuals for so long it's just common practice for me.. I did have a friend drive my car and he thought it was quite weird not to use a clutch.. Hmmm

I read that randy pobst ran the BRZ long term test car at Laguna and there was a debate about the auto, they found a auto BRZ and he ran that.. It was a different day and the weather was a bit cooler, but was a tenth faster in the auto... Again.. He said it was most likely the climate.. I'll dig up that Facebook post.. It's a few months old but I'll find it..

Gotta remember after launching.. You don't have to worry about a mis shift, a botched downshift, a missed heal toe, and the gear ratio is almost the same.. Better through the corners if you have to shift as there is no weight transfer.. You knock the auto, but it will surprise you

I drive 300-400 miles a week mixed and I'm averaging 29mpg with some "spirited" driving. But I also have the gear/shift indicator on and follow it religiously while Dailey driving.

As far as fun, you can't beat that extra level of engagement.

I'm sure the auto in this car is great, the engineers did a hell of a job on everything else... But I didn't really buy the car to be a track monster (I would have bought the Mustang GT or 370z if I wanted to go fast around a track) I bought it for "dat feelz" and as far as I'm concerned you just don't get that in a slushbox.

I don't mean to knock what you're saying but I'll tell you the first thought that crossed my mind when I read your post. How can it be fun if you're constantly having to "religiously" follow the commands of a computer driven control?

Get out your owners manual, read how to turn that thing off and really enjoy some fun making your own decisions.

It'll be worth the wait!

I just wish I would've been patient enough in the first place to wait for a manual frs to pop up. I could've saved myself a bit of money.

So your doing the right thing

i agree with this,so one really does have to think long and hard if considering the "slush" box! have to admit, the auto in this car makes it a tough decision.
