Reminded me of this E46 M3 commercial where it's being driven on a mountainside road and at the end they're just playing that metallic engine note and ohhh maan. Can't find that one

Most definitely though any, or at the very least, most owners I've seen in person is of the age of 20 - 35~; there are always exceptions of course.
There will of course be outliers but even if we change the numbers by 10% of so it still tells a tale.
People focus on the young person marketing but these cars were marketed for two main demographics of which the young, techy or professional was only one component. The other target was the middle aged empty nester with the cash and option to be able to have a second fun car for play or commuting. There are far more of this category on the forum than many would believe.
I repeat that even here we did not see the average age start to drop until the used ones started dropping in price and they became more available to the younger crowd. This is totally normal in the car industry and has happened forever.
I always found it funny that the FRS was supposed to be the young guy market and the BRZ was aimed at the "higher end" older market but the sales numbers clearly show that the reverse is what actually happened.
People can NEVER go by the others they have met or seen as a "normal" situation. If that was the case then I would think that the bulk of the owners are old women since I see two of them for every young guy driving one around here.

Well, at least according to Jack Hollis and other Scion executives at the First 86 event in 2012, the marketing for this was never intended to be aimed at "youth" as in age, but at "those who think young". Basically Scion's job was to move the average buying age of their cars to about 10 years younger than Toyota, but that really just meant lowering it from something like the mid 50s to the mid 40s.

Heck, I would say close to 50% of the First 86 group were 40 or older in 2012.

Doesn't help that everyone around me wanted me to buy something sensible with 4 doors. My mom was actually upset I bought it. I remember her sitting across the back seats cause her legs wouldn't fit, genuinely upset, saying something like "you don't care about your mother" lol
That was sort of my point that they targeted to specific. The sales numbers show that the bulk of the buyers were not likely of an age where they were riding many buses. There may have been (probably were) ads on TV before I bought the car but the other aspect of the modern era is you can usually skip them now so if they ever appeared I probably fast forwarded through them so was totally ignorant they were selling them.

My wife HATES my car. Always has from the before day she even rode in it. The day after I bought it, but hadn't picked it up yet, she called me in totally hysterics. Between sobs I managed to get the story of why she was so upset. Apparently she had told the guys at her work what I bought and they all said things like "Oh he will be killed by a truck running over him", "those things are so powerful (sic) he will get into an accident" and "Those are death traps". I had to show her all the crash test ratings and safety awards to get her calmed down. Even now when she goes with me anyplace (very, very, very rare) she is gripping the seat edge with white knuckles and flinches every single time any other car comes close.

I bought mine new at 23. I know a bunch of then--20-somethings that bought their own new car as well. Mostly engineers, or engineering-adjacent.

Nope. 8 year old Neon's, beat up old Hyundai's and the one "cool" guy with the worn out, base model, 2010 Eclipse.

I think it was mostly brodozers and Winnebagos.
They can't get out of their own way and they squash a lot of stuff.

One time my mom excitedly told me to quickly come and look out the window cause there was a ferrari there. Turned out to be a red Eclipse.

In my (so far)two spring/summer/fall years that I have my 86 my wife has not even TRYNG to drive it! not even once! and is not because is manual, she knows drive manual, but doesn't like my "baby"... In fact she only has been passenger on my car 2 times... But instead, she loves my "Winter Beater" (Corolla 2001)... Tales for a married man
