I dunno, I think I'd like to shift it myself. I was surprised that it would downshift automatically in (I think) the most sport/track mode. Which was fine given that I was learning the car but ultimately I think I'd prefer it to leave the up/downshift decisions to ME. SUrely there's a mode where it won't do uncommanded shifts?
With my FR-S, I also shift myself (drive in manual mode) when I drive for fun. And, I am glad FR-S doesn't down shift in manual mode unless I am coming to a stop. It is fully manual in manual mode other than times to avoid engine stall. I always need to downshift myself for using engine brake, before acceleration, or entering a corner if I want exit with a momentum, etc. I have to admit automatic mode is horrible, especially after FI, for performance driving. I use automatic mode only in the neighborhood and parking places.

You are not old enough for this car, you need to be more balding and your hair needs to be grayer.

LOL, I'm sorry that I gave that false impression. Actually, at 54, I am old, bald, and gray, and ... I think I will perfectly fit in that car

I think this car is a landmark technological achievement for US in the world automotive industry. This price/performance ratio is very hard to achieve. Is there another car at this price/performance? (I assume Tesla is a different story)

Well, at 54, you are just over the line -

Yep, I find myself very much attracted to that Corvette. Why? Because I've always wanted a Corvette. Besides at age 76, it may be my last fling at a new, sporty car, before someone takes my drivers license away or all cars are electric and drive themselves. -

I would take a red one like this -

Oh, I might try, but I would get the optional/after market back up camera and sensors that would apply the brakes and slip the shifter out of reverse and lock out reverse for 5 minutes -

Thanks for the encouragement.

Oh, with that machine, I could attract all the soccer moms at the pre-school, elementary and middle schools, as I pick up and drop off my granddaughters one at a time. Plus, I could beat those SUV driving moms to the best parking spots at the schools.

Oh, shit, with all those women all over me, my granddaughters would just rat me out to ma-ma and I would be out in the garage sleeping with my vette.

hmmmmmmm -
