Auto-x in CS

I have a turbo Miata and ran SSM just for fun. I know the 2016 & 17 Miata's do a bit better than the FRS or BRZ in C Street. I just got a 2017 86 with a 6 spd and intend to run C Street with it.

So will the 2017 do any better than the FRS or the BRZ? Only 5 more hp and 5 more ft/lbs of torque, but the 4.30 diff might make it a bit quicker?

I'd like to hear anybody's comments.

The TRD wheels for the 2017's are a 1/2" wider and the FD should help dig out of corners better than the previous versions. I expect the 17's (with the TRD springs and wheels) to close some of the gap with the ND Miata's.

So to confirm, the TRD parts (Springs, bars and wheels) ARE still legal for use on 17’s? So the 86 would still be favorable over a BRZ?

The BRZ can use the performance package parts, I'm not sure which is better.

I don't think either is going to compete with the ND's.

Get an older twin and go play in SSC. If I were starting today, that's where I'd go. You can't get much better than a spec class for a level playing field and an easy way to prep a car.

Yes.

From the CS classing section of the rule book:

"Toyota
86 (including TRD Lowering
Springs, TRD Sway Bar Kit,
and TRD 17-in. Forged Wheel)
(2017)"

Local - you'll do just fine with the right tires and good driving skills, the fastest CS car to show at nationals from Florida was a 2016 BRZ so there's probably not an impossible to beat Miata near you.
National - nobody has tried it yet, that doesn't mean it isn't possible

Don't overthink it, go play and have fun. Get OE crash bolts and an alignment, max out front camber with that part, zero out the toe.

Small correction, it's a 2016 *FRS* (with TRD stuff).
