Modified snorkel/aftermarket intake duct - sound opinions?

For those of us that have had intakes and gone back to stock/drop-in filter but miss the induction noise, is the modified snorkel or an aftermarket duct (like the HKS or Greddy units) a good opportunity to get some more intake bark on downshifts, WOT, etc? Already have a nice aftermarket exhaust but the tone of the car isn't as good as it was when i had a proper CAI (even if it didn't add much power).

For those who have modified the snorkel to delete the two resonators or installed one of those aftermarket pieces, would you say there was a noticeable increase in intake volume? I also thought about deleting the resonators that are part of the regular intake assembly, but i have heard they have less than ideal effects on performance and fuel trims

not really. I have the beatrush intake snorkel, it makes it louder but compare to when i had the trd intake + this? no.

I have the HKS Duct v1 and stock airbox.

Putting the HKS duct on added a little, but the major contributor was probably my K&N filter

i have a blitz panel filter in there now. louder than stock but not quite what i want. these are the intake setups i've had in order from quietest to loudest

stock
stock + drop-in
grimmspeed
airaid
grimmspeed with the top panel removed

the airaid and grimmspeed with the top off were the best sounding to me, but the airaid was crap performance wise (came with the car when i bought it) and the grimmspeed also didn't perform right when the top panel was removed.

interesting. i am also considering doing the HKS duct + TRD intake because the TRD it deletes resonators and is the best in terms of preserving the stock fuel trims and CARB compliant. Obviously more costly than the stock airbox + intake duct though. Which one was more noticeable sound-wise, the TRD intake, or the duct?

Mishimoto intake pipe and snorkel mod, no resonators, slighlty louder.

Hard to hear over my exhaust though.

I have the trd and the bigger hks duct. The intake was a much larger increase in noise IMO. Cant recall a huge difference after the new duct really. Certain RPMS, yes...but overall not a huge change.

stock intake cancels out noise. so TRD will make more noise in that sense, but beatrush snokle + TRD intake ...it's atleast twice louder compare to just TRD intake. very very obvious differences

I love the sound of my Grimmspeed with no top plate on but it bogs down at low rpm when I take it off. I’d love to get a bit more induction bark as well so watching with interest

I used stock box with Perrin inlet pipe and HKS v1 duct (which is FS) and sound was a tad bit louder. I had it with OFT and made a nice combo

Yeap, I've heard that high intake temps removes the torque dip.

If only there was a good CAI OEM, oh yeah, there is.

Where would we be without good marketing and Koolaid

I'm running Mishimoto Tube with, HKS drop in and Greddy duct. I noticed the biggest tone differences with the tube (with resonator removed - not a big difference but subtle) and filter - I would say there was no difference in tone with the addition of the duct. But those intake temps are on point:
