Subaru could have easily modified one of the black horizontal grill bars slightly to allow two screw inserts for plate mounting, allowing the plate to float in the middle of the grill. Bad miss there.

You could slap something like this on to clean it up a bit.

Does that mean the actual production spec cars will as well?

I just can't understand how they could ruin what is arguably the most important section of the bumper design

Well, don't know for sure but this is off the Subaru Japan official website so you tell me.

How about this:

The Captain is contemplating a move to a frontless state. If said plan comes to fruition, his new BRZ will be wearing a front plate with a custom graphic of some sort just to cover that spot on the bumper.

I wouldn't worry about it at all guys.

SO many cars have their mounting point over the painted area, some of the best looking ever - old jags, the old supras.

Hopefully an aftermarket bumper gets rid of the molding?

Honestly for most people this will probably be like the mustache. It’ll be a bit annoying at first, then you’ll get used to it and not mind.

I don't anticipate a lot of aftermarket bumpers, and it's not going to be a cheap replacement.

But if any aftermarket shop is reading this, please consider this proposal:
https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3402470
(and yes, please also remove the moulding for the license plate)
