i wants the popcorn LOL, but to add my two cents yeah i dont really have much of a problem with passing infact I just went on a 10 car cruise with some friends through the mountains, I am obviously the second slowest car there with the second slowest being a stock focus st, with rx7 and hawkeye being the fastest two there both heavily modified ( 500 hp+)

ANYWAYS... All ten of us were not having an issue and thankfully for me I didnt have much trouble keeping up on our spirited drive. Passes were far from risky and to be fair in the corners when they obviously werent in boost I made up some of the slack, but as soon as those straight aways happened... oh lord, you really realized how slow the twins are.

But damn was it ever a blast running with about 3300HP (total of the cars estimated) give or take a hundred through the mountians.

Why do you try so hard?

Let's use this thread to show prospective buyers that the 86 can leave other cars in the dust, when correctly dropped into the upper ranges.
It will also teach current owners who do not understand how to downshift ...how this works.

Please post dashcam clips that demonstrate correct passing. I'll post one in the next day or two.

Stop using 6th.

Our highways in the GTA are far too crowded to just cruise...

At "highway speeds" I'd go straight to 3rd! 45 or below I'd go straight to 2nd FFS!

Ok I don't know MPH so I'm gonna do kph. So I'm on the highway, let's say doing 110, there is a goody goody two shoes citizen in front of me doing 100 on the dot. I'm behind him, have to slow down to his speed, then an opportunity to pass opens up, and I put it into 4th from 6th? How do I blip 2 gears worth of revs? It just seems mechanically unsympathetic to me. Either way it just feels like a decent jolt to the system.

110 is about 65 mph. 3rd would be a bit extreme though it would work 80mph (130kph) is about the red line in 3rd. 4th will work allowing you to continue to about 160kph if the goody two shoes wants a race.

Clutch in, shift to 4th (being gentle but swift), apply the accelerator and lift the clutch as the revs zoom, apply the rest of the accelerator. Shout "WOOHOO!", give the ole bird the finger as you pass.

If you want you can practice the timing so the revs match that required in 4th as the clutch releases but it's less important. However the REALLY important thing is to lift the revs up and be applying throttle when the clutch begins to catch. If you left the revs drop even more and release the clutch you will get a horrid jolt forward and could potentially (in the wet) lose rear traction similar to grabbing the hand brake.

Hopefully, since you have time, you'll plan ahead. While you're twiddling your thumbs behind the blocker, work your way down the gearbox to 4000 and drop back 50 meters or so. Then, when traffic opens up, accelerate and slingshot them. By the time you're even with their rear bumper, you should be turning 5000 or better and well on your way to 150 kph.

edit. IMHO these cars are just not THAT slow.

I'm surprised at the number of people who are surprised by the need to pass.
