Torquing strut nut

I did not want to resurrect any of the strut/spring threads but I have a question. In theory, to torque the center strut nut to 41 ft/lb a crows foot must be used. This could add length which in turn would change the calculation. Could I use the torque wrench on the Allen socket and tighten the nut until the the value is obtained?

I just give a quick zip with an impact.

If you don't have one use a crow foot or pass through socket and make it "tight". If you are worried add some blue loctite.

I wouldn't worry about getting the torque exactly right.

Since torque is force x distance, you can just correct your torque wrench setting for the added length with a little math.

Or just turn it down like one click. it doesn't have to be that exact.

Or use a standard socket and a strap wrench around the shock shaft.

I would not try tightening the shock shaft via th allen key. I think you could break the top of the shock shaft that way plus it would require more force to reach the same "tightness."

If you put the crow's foot on the torque wrench so that is it perpendicular to the wrench handle, the difference in torque will be negligible.
