Replaced my F&R brake pads with some Winmax W3 brake pads, https://www.winmaxusa.com/Articles.asp?ID=251

Also test fitted some Hoosier A6s on the front and rear of my car for next season's AutoX events.

My trick for this: Buy gas at Kroger and stock up on gift cards for places you would go anyway, so you get the $0.20 off per gallon. Brings it down to a nearly reasonable price. If you're somewhere that has a Kroger grocery store...

Well, after saying I wouldn't do it, I ordered up and installed an aftermarket muffler.

Yep, a "Nameless" axle back unit arrived 6 days after I ordered it (pretty darn quick - huh).

I got the version with the 5" mufflers (thank goodness).

It's was a breeze to install. I WD-40-ed the two nuts and shot up under the rubber hangars with a "hot shot", a mixture of hot water and dish soap. I had a syringe left over from my days of experimenting with chemical compounds.

OK, after trying to get my tri-focal glasses to cooperate, and my arms to bend in un-natural ways, while lying on a cold, damp concrete floor, to get the old muffler off the hangars ..... I decided to take a coffee break.

I put the keys in the ignition, packed up the new muffler and drove up the road to my favorite automotive shop, where they put the car on a lift, and swapped out the muffler, while I had a cup of coffee and read part of a car magazine.

How does it sound? Just great, for a boxer-4. I'm sure glad I didn't get the muffler delete or the 4" muffler versions. I growls a bit upon acceleration, but quiets down at cruising speed.

I'm happy ....... and mrs humfrz is totally impressed ....

This is the same one I am looking at. I'm slowly creeping my way towards being 40 years old and I want something that is loud but not too loud. How is it?

Well, @Evil Jesus, age 40 is a good age ..... you have time for at least 3 more mid-life crises ......

You know, I wasn't gonna change out a perfectly good muffler (like I did on my MX-5, miata). So, I purchased and installed a set of the Perrin exhaust tips .... so the exhaust wouldn't look "goofy" ("the forum" convinced me they looked goofy).

But, something was still missing ..... the "sports car sound". So, I went for the most economical "fix" I could find .... the Nameless axel back unit. If you read the descriptions of the various options on their web site (muffler delete, 4" mufflers, 5" mufflers) I think you will find them quite accurate and descriptive.

For me, the muffler delete and 4" mufflers would be too loud ..... based on what I hear out of the 5" mufflers.

So, I went with the 2.5 " tubing (since I don't plan on messing with the rest of the exhaust system), the plain slash cut tips (as opposed to the colored ones) and the OEM hangers seem to be just fine.

The inside cabin sound was my main concern .... I could handle a little but not much, and NO drone at speed. I would say the inside cabin sound on accereration, is about as much as the sound tube generates.

At idle and upon acceleration it sounds just right for my 70 year old ears .... just enough to say "I'm here" ..... but not enough to shout "look at me".

The unit adds about 10 WHP () so my "ears dyno" tells me; however that can't be confirmed or denied by my butt dyno....... because both are about worn out ....

I'm going to try to post some audio later, as soon as I get my lazy ass moving!

I hope that gives you an idea of the sound.

Another middle age guy here with the same Nameless 2.5/5" pipe, it is the perfect level of loudness for me too, nice deep sound without attracting too much of the wrong type of attention.

@humfrz @kludger Thank you both for the input. Sounds like the 2.5"/5" combo is the right one for me. I had a thread going in the exhaust sub-forum about this exact topic and it led me to the same conclusion. Loud without being loud is what I'm looking for.

Disconnected the goofy, ricer-looking glowing emblems on my 10 series.

I would gladly have traded the front and rear weight added by these stupid lighting 'enhancements' for equivalent weight of sound-deadening in the doors.
