Actually, I prefer to carry a handgun that I'm confident with hence I take my personal defense firearm to the range as well.

Well, there's a difference between a carry gun and a range toy...but both go to the range.

Shot prone for the first time at distance. Was getting some decent results, but was struggling to find a comfortable way to shoulder the rifle. The fat and muscle pocket I usually shove the butt into while standing or at a bench is angled down and the stock kicks right into my collar bone. I really only managed one decent group at 100yds after warming up, and was definitely losing it slowly after each shot because of soreness. Even on the fifth shot (lower right) I was pulling too harsh.

The cure for prone-itis is a chest bag or shoulder condom.
Or eat like a Walmart fatty -

I'd love to learn. Never shot prone before, where do you put the stock so it's not on your collar bone?

Iff'n you put it lower - welcome to scope eye !

Kick Ass dildo rubber condoms over the butt stock recoil pad work very well.
I have one on my 12 gauge double 12 inch barrel lupara and I can fire magnum slugs with no brain concussion.
Or wear a sorbothane pad over your collarbone.

Just fiddling around in my room, it seems the only pocket that doesn't touch bone is basically in the armpit, and I was taught never to shoulder rifles out that far, but that was also for standing/sitting/kneeling. The 700 has a recoil pad in the stock and is just a .308, but it's also a bull barrel with no muzzle brake. Oh well. Something to work on. From a sitting bench, I can usually throw 5 rounds through one ragged hole. This was from last time (I know, way too long between trips...)

It's likely going to rest on or near your collar bone, but your collar should not be taking the brunt of your weapon's recoil. Positioning your body correctly as a whole is going to make a difference.

There are a handful of instructional videos out there to get you on the right track. Other than that there is practice and training from instructors.

I shot a .416 rigby in prone position. Not recommended for inexperienced shooters.

1876 LSA Martini-Henry Mk. I-II. This is an untouched rifle from IMA - it sat in an old building in Nepal for about 100 years and is coated in grime and old dried grease. I'll be spending the next few weeks cleaning it up.
Took me quite a bit longer than expected... a slow process when I had time... but here's the end result of this.

Yup. Range toy is the same as a track toy. They're supposed to be stupid fun at the range or track, but that's the context you bought them for and that they're used in. As opposed to the daily driver and your carry gun: good to take to the track and take to the range, and they ought to be taken there to improve your use with them, but they're mainly for daily use.

I've found a double stack pistol (carried OWB or IWB) is very much unsuited for carry for me in the BRZ. The bolstering is too strong and it pushes my lower back and pelvic bone out of alignment. Single stack is most comfortable for on-waist carry, though most comfortable carry for on-body in-car carry for me is ankle carry.

Thinking about getting that Sig brace for my pistol. How do you like it? I know you're not suppose to but is it long enough to shoulder?
