Speaking of jobs and getting along with bosses.
My boss repeatedly will see something broken or we'll say something in our systems isn't working, and he implies I left it broken and wasn't honest about breaking it, and that I've ignored it for several hours without telling anyone. This is after me literally telling him in one of our last one-on-one meetings that he keeps doing this and I'm very honest to my teammates when I've fucked something up and would never just let something sit broken. And when he makes these implications/assumptions it's during team meetings so everybody gets to see me belittled like this and nobody speaks up for me. This morning something appeared broken, I let a teammate know about it. We've been looking into it since. Right now is our weekly planning meeting. Issue comes up, boss implies it's my fault without, you know, asking what's been done so far about it and what we know about it first. Then during this meeting 20 mins more into me and another teammate doing further digging, we bring up a possible related issue. Boss goes "oh.. yeah I didn't realize when we used X variable there might be issues due to Y, and so we need to be more careful/deliberate choosing which X to use from a list. Otherwise this issue is quite likely exactly a result of that." And then nothing; no apology or anything.

I just hit 5 years at my company last week. This is my first "real" job after graduating in 2013.
Feels good, but also feels weird that I've worked here for almost 20% of my life. |

5 years is awhile. Hopefully they appreciate you. Makes staying at the same company bearable. ( or fun hopefully) I have worked for the same company since 1998. 52% of my life, never thought of it that way. Been with my wife 40% of my life now. Wow!

I never intended to work here long term at the start, it was just going to be a job to fill some time before I went back to school for architecture. Construction management turned out to be more enjoyable than I thought so I stuck around, and a couple of promotions later I can't really see myself working anywhere else for the foreseeable future. The work can be high stress, but I'm grateful that hard work is recognized and rewarded here. I could earn more money at a bigger company, but I really value the "family" atmosphere I get here. |

I stayed with my first company/job right out of college for 10 yrs. It was a small start-up and got to see it grow and learn a lot through out the years. I did feel "pigeon holed" after a while though. Sometimes, you get so good at what you do, that's all you end up doing. Left on good terms and still keep in touch with my old boss and some coworkers. Hard not to when you see the same people for that long. Also, I just figured out I've been with my wife for ~48% of my life... not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing lol |

One other thing, if its a "contract" job as in you will be in an independent consultant and not a temporary employment don't forget about the tax consequences depending on where you live. You would need to make significantly more as a contractor than you would as an employee to break even just on the tax portion (our social security tax will double for example).
In the end, I know a lot of people that have done it for years, hopping from one contract to another. Others that can't 'do the math' and get themselves in quick trouble.

Stay, and look for opportunities to prove you're worth more elsewhere... And watch your step if politics are messy. Because you just said they could use your skills ...
