Rest of planned mods for the next couple months

Thanks!

I've been spending some money/time upgrading things at my shop(upgrading 30+ PC's to i5-3570/8GB DDR/Mobo) so that's taken quite a bit out of my Toyota 86 fund.. but it is a must-do so I can spend what I spend on the 86

Ummm things on the 'current' things-to-do list is:

- Get the car certified and permitted by an engineer for modifications. Australia has some very draconian laws when it comes to vehicle modifications, its pretty much just a revenue raiser for the government.
- Put back my Colin TYC Red lights back on(stock ones are on until I get the car passed - see point above)
- Install my Matte black Grazio badges(probably do it when the TRD vents come in)
- ELM327 ordered and paid for - waiting for arrival
- Edding 8050 white tyre pen ordered and paid for - waiting for arrival
- Motiv/Custom made overpipe - its $250 for FREIGHT to West Oz!!!
- Install HKS extension sensor(so no more CEL - probably won't matter once I get ECUtek flashed though)
- Carbon Fibre drive shaft, probably in a month or two time - not really rushed for it atm.
- And FINALLY.. ECUtek tune(paid for) - this will be the 'final mod' for a while.. until I go Sprintex Supercharger - I'm just waiting on the sidelines to see how the other Perth 86 cars go(insurance coverage wise and modification permit wise)

Right now, the car feels really great. Great throttle response(even without a tune). I'm running some "P100" fuel from "United Petroleum" service stations.
It contains *some* ethanol and definitely has quite a bit of difference in car performance.
http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/ethanol

I fill up with BP Ultimate 98(full tank), let that run down to 1/2 tank, then fill up with United P100. Repeat the same process over and over.

Probably order some little knick knacks for the car. Maybe some TRD tyre valve covers..

In the meantime I'll most probably just enjoy the throttle response of N/A goodness and go on track days whenever I can

Edding 8050 Tyre Pen

This pen is quite good. Applies on like a liquid paper pen, but not as water-ey.
Have to give it a good shake, but don't shake it too much as the paint inside will get too viscous and may be too runny and difficult to apply.

Was kinda difficult at first, but I managed to do the last "MICHELIN" text in under 2 minutes.
For anyone doing this here are a few pointers.
- Make sure the area you are painting is CLEAN. My tyres were relatively new(about 4 weeks old) so it was kinda easy for me.
- Start on the EDGES FIRST..
- When starting on the EDGES first.. start on the CORNERS FIRST
- To apply.. dab 1-2mm from the edge.. and lift and kinda 'flick out'.. the paint will more or less sit on the edge(if your writing on RAISED lettering)
- If you are using a paint pen on lowered lettering. I don't know what to say

Here are some pics:

I was going to take a picture of the whole car with lettering, but decided it would be a better idea for me to let the tyre paint dry for a couple of hours..

EDIT: Pic of wheel

TRD Intake Quick Look

20130403-86TRDIntake-030 by VictorN07, on Flickr

I'm doing a personal favor for my friend @stevo_12v in helping him get the TRD intake. He may be the first to install it. I inspected the package before sending it off. Here are my thoughts. I hope it doesn't make Steve too anxious

Large but light box. Comes in at 8lbs. Good sign for weight weenies.

Leaves nothing to the imagination for the shipping company!!!

Part Numbers. This is a Made in the USA unit. I thought most TRD parts are made in Japan?

20130403-86TRDIntake-012 by VictorN07, on Flickr

The TRD Intake removes the sound tube, so it comes with a plastic plug to cap the sound tube. In this bag there is also a zip tie to tie down the MAF sensor wire and some other plastic cap. It's purpose remains unknown to me

The booklet that comes with it. I love that it says 2.0L F-4 on the top.

The backside of the airbox's part number

The backside of the box. it is much longer than the stock box. The exit of this intake box goes straight back into the throttle body. No more bends for the air to go around.

It only attaches using two out of the three mount points from the stock box. You need to transfer the rubber grommets from the stock box over and reuse the 10mm bolts to secure this. It reuses the stock air scoop so no need to remove the bumper to install this intake.

20130403-86TRDIntake-032 by VictorN07, on Flickr

You can see where the TRD logo comes into the box

20130403-86TRDIntake-034 by VictorN07, on Flickr

It comes with a flexible hose and two clamps. The flexible bits do induce some turbulence, but at least its a short straight connection to the throttle body. Plus its red!

Here comes the air filter part number

20130403-86TRDIntake-039 by VictorN07, on Flickr

I didn't know the TRD air filter was an oiled part. You can see the oil stain on the top left of the box. The filter was preoiled, the inside of the bag was slimy. It is a very long reusable filter. who knows if more surface area for air to go through would increase performance. Steve will tell us. The red frame is flexible.

20130403-86TRDIntake-047 by VictorN07, on Flickr

Overall I thought the part was built very well. Still surprises me its a USA part and not Japan part. Judging from my experience you need the following to complete the install:

ratchet
extensions
10mm socket
Phillips screwdriver
Pliers

It should take about 1 hour to install it.

I hope you enjoy it Steve.

Thanks Victor!

Thanks HEAPS for the detailed pictures @F1point4!!!

Quite interesting that TRD USA are using an oiled filter.. and to think I went for the TRD JP(instead of a K&N panel) air filter because I was worried about tiny oil particles going into the intake!
At any rate I hope this gives great induction sound!

Again, great pics as always Good to show prospective buyers what they are expecting when going for this particular intake. And its fantastic that you do NOT have to remove/replace the stock venturi intake tubing too!

You're going to provide us with a before/after dyno of the intake, yes?

Will donate one (1) jar of Vegemite to this cause.

TRD Airbox Installed :)

Was planning on installing this last night, but my apartment got flooded
Hot water system decided to rupture and was squirting out hot water for a couple of hours while I was at work. Bedroom carpet is gone, 1/2 of it is soaked. Lounge carpet might be able to salvage though..

Anyway, it was late when I got back(3am) and I was in a cbf mood. So woke up 8:00am and decided to install it. Install took around an hour. Most of the time was mucking about trying to get the clips off, and the hose off the stock 'sound generator tubing'.

Fitment of this is perfect. Filter changes this is VERY easy too, just undo four clips holding the top portion of the airbox. The red accordian tube to the intake is VERY flexible so that helps too.

I didn't bother taking pre-install pics as my good buddy @F1point4 took some really good pics before he sent it off to me. Here are some pics after the install. There is a nice big void area now near the fan belt.

EDIT: Update, cleared my "CEL" with my newly purchase ELM327 and the "Torque" LITE app which can be downloaded here:
http://www.simvalley.us/torque-andro...luetooth-tool/

Drove the car for about 30km's so far, car runs alot smoother now without that pesky CEL also car runs much quieter unless your on WOT. Car literally growls at 7krpm.
From 4krpm and onwards the car feels very strong and pulls pretty decently for a stock N/A motor.

HKS Spec-L Version 2

I had this in the back room for about 2-3 weeks, and been too busy to install it. Finally got round to changing over my old HKS Spec-L with this new and improved version. Many thanks to Bruce Woodward from @HKS_Australia for the fantastic service and looking after me regarding the slight manufacturing issue.

I managed to put on some nice teflon polish on the muffler and the tips this time :P

The additional bracing helps to alleviate/prevent the slight micro fractures near the muffler.

TRD Fender Vents

Woke up this morning to a package. Originally ordered almost 3 months ago..I was expecting to receive it early last month, but this particular item is pretty popular in Japan.
It was nice to see that it had EMS written on the box. That means JDM Goodness

As always.. a few pics:

Installation Instructions

Underside of vents. They utilize the stock mounting positions and clips

As expected.. VERY high quality from TRD.

Installed pics
