SBD Turbo Kit Installed and Tuned!

Hey guys,

We've done some minor work on the FT86 platform, but this was our first turbo kit, so I thought I'd share the results.

This was on a 2014 FR-S that came in with just an exhaust and left with an SBD turbo kit, Perrin Oil Cooler, Koyo Radiator and tune.

The blue baseline is a bone stock FR-S and the two green lines are with the turbo kit at about 9psi. That's a 95whp gain on 91 Octane and still retaining the factory cat section!

Impressions of the kit: This was one of the first kits released from SBD so we worked closely with Chris on a couple small refinements. Overall the kit is very complete and the fit and finish is excellent. I will be proud to recommend the kit to future customers.

Driving impressions: The powerband feels great and it really still feels like an NA car due tot he flat torque curve and very quick spool. The chassis seems to handle this power very well all around. I just checked in with the customer since he's had the car back for a few days and he's very happy with the outcome and the added power.

Here is the chart and some pictures of the progress:

Thanks
-- Ed

Did you do a custom tune or did you just install it and load the base map that comes with it?

If it is a basemap that is a pretty decent base map!

Cool set-up, but I just can't get over the name "SBD" although it may also apply if it come with a recirc.

HAHAHA! I never even made that association!

The company is called Speed By Design and we'e been doing business with them for over a year for GT-R parts. They have always had good quality, excellent pricing, and best of all, excellent customer service. So I guess I'll forgive the reference to flatulence

Thanks

Thanks! We have been getting more and more BRZ's and FR-S's coming by and I'm really liking the cars. We have another one coming in soon for a supercharger install. Should be an interesting comparison.

How comfortable are you with tuning this engine? Could you do a turbo tune from scratch?

I'm very comfortable with them at this point and would have no problem doing a turbo tune from scratch. It is fairly time consuming to get things dialed in properly, but I have plenty of patience

Thanks

I want this exact setup, but I'm not even going to ask how much it is because I already know I can't afford it. But man, so sexy!
