I am currently in a BMW and have been driving BMW's for the past 10 years, prior to BMW ownership I was a Toyota owner and loved the cars.

Trying to reduce costs in the poor Calgary market and I don't want to find a part time job to keep the BMW.
I love mine as a DD. I used to do 30 minutes commutes in traffic each way 5 days a week and now I drive about 20 minutes to Okotoks for work. Every day since I bought mine I have been a little sad that the drive is over when I get wherever I am going. If you ever want to meet up and talk cars and check it out let me know, I am more then happy to share. I should also add I do not drive anyone else around, or put thing in it really haha!

With all that being said I have done a lot of mods to get my car to were I want it. Thats one of the things that makes these great is you can make them into whatever you want.

Thank you...that is great to hear. I know with any car a good set of winter wheels/tires makes the driving experience a positive one.

I am just trying to get my head wrapped around the fact that I will probably drive the car every day for the next 10 years...and whether this would be the best car for that.

I know mine is a different experience than what you'd want, but if you need space, this isn't a great car for that. But if you're just looking for a commuting car, this is a good option.

The furthest drive I've done was about 6 hours and it was pretty comfy, and I've done lots of drives about 2 hours long to the cottage with my girlfriend (winter and summer) enough space for our stuff, groceries and alcohol. The biggest issue I've had with this car, is picking up car parts, and getting into the cottage's driveway in the winter time.

Yeah these cars are okay for city snow driving with good winter tires, but in deep slush or deep soft snow they kinda suck (to light) I personally prefer balance over AWD. Keep in mind if you have kids in the next 10 years this is not a good choice.

I am not planning any kids in the next little while and the car would be used to commute and do daily activities in Calgary and surrounding areas.

Then I say you should go test drive one and see what you think. on second thought you might want to wait till spring as you can not drive these with the OEM tires in winter lol.

I do want to test drive one...but they are hard to find. Seems the dealers are hiding them or don't want to let anyone take for a drive.

I might go to a private sale to see if I can drive one....I have driven one in the past, but it was only for about 3 minutes on an auto-x course in LA - plus it was an auto transmission.

When you are driving the car in a spirited manner, the auto does take away some the enjoyment....but based on the experience it was a great car to drive

Yes and no once you learn to drive it with auto. I do wish it was stick sometimes but I do enjoy driving it in "manual" mode 90% of the time until I hit traffic then I am glad I got an auto. plus the autos hold more torque then a MT before it blows up
