So...it's official. I talked to a Scion rep and they can put in an order for the 2014 FR-S right now if I wanted to. They expect to be here by September or October, which matches the tentative date of the 2014 BRZ arrival.
Also, no release series this year, nor will there be any changes made to the 2013 models, at least as far as the FR-S goes.
Not even a new rim style, or bigger wheels, or HIDs, or any upgrades whatsoever.
As far as differences go, the only difference between the 2013 and 2014 models will be just the year number on the official papers.

Thanks for the update.. I wonder if Subaru is going to follow suit with having no changes to their two models. I am debating getting a 2013 BRZ this summer, but want to wait and see what changes, if any, are made to the 2014 BRZ.

What's with all these expectations that new features will be added when the vast majority of cars don't go through design/option/accessory changes in the second year and many still don't even change in the third. This car shouldn't be any different other than the process/manufacturing changes needed to correct defects i.e. tail light condensation.

Might just end up getting a late 2013 model. I still have a couple of months to decide anyway.

Alright My choice is made, full late 2013 BRZ.

Now to choose a color. WRB, GBS, DGM, SSM, or CBS

I love the GBS, didn't offer it where I was though.

I think I am in the same boat as you here... Except I know I want a WRB Limited MT. So really this summer it will come down to finding one that's available.

DGM looks boss, shows the cars lines well and looks classy like a Aston Martin.

I agree DGM looks Great However I am a bit worried about the heat factor.

You see it gets to the triple digits her in OK, so will the DGM and CBS be super hot?

Because if that's the case I may have to go with the Blues or the SSM.

This is good news for me I picked up my car in July '12, so it'll actually be a year and a quarter old by the time the next model year comes

I don't see why they would change anything. It kind of makes sense that Scion isn't changing a thing. The car has been selling like hot cakes, so they don't need to waste their time and money on updating the car just yet.
I guess that's a good and bad thing for the consumers. The good thing is that the people who bought the 2013 are going to be able to call their car brand new for another year. The bad thing about it is that people who might have wanted to wait for 2014 to see what's changed are going to be disappointed that they waited this long instead of just getting the 2013 earlier.
I, for one, am probably going to get the 2013 at this point.
Planning on ordering one late May or early June, and even if things do change by then, I don't think I could wait until october to get my hands on a 2014.

How many times have we heard " A Scion/Subaru rep told me..." only to find later it was total BS, especially for something so many months in advance.

I'd take these rumours with one giant chunk of rock salt. Especially since the GT86 chief engineer is on record saying they will be following the GTR model of incremental yearly improvements.

Subaru usually sticks to a car for 2-4 years before they do any major changes. Look at their car history.

True, but, it sounds like it's true this time especially considering I went into the dealership and talked to the guy, and he could have placed an order on a 2014 for me right then and there if I wanted one. He told me the expected arrival date would be late September/October, which matches the original post in this thread, plus he also said the 2014 had no changes.
Why would he be able to put down an order for 2014 model AND tell me there are no changes if it wasn't true?
