Not for a while. Just seeing what's out there.

So there's a groupbuy on Overpipes and Front pipes in the group buy forum here, and i'm wondering if there's any value in these before going supercharged. I'm still torn between T/C and S/C routes. I'm completely stock so far with the exception of an Moto-east ecutek tune for 100% e85.
If I go with a header instead, and I might, I would be leaning towards EL. Is there really any proven benefit of EL over UEL?

Generally it's believed that EL headers make more power then UEL ones NA or FI. As for the rest I guess all of that becomes a personal decision of sorts.

i think performance is better for el, and better if you turbo? although you lose the rumbley boxer sound. i think header gets you one of the biggest gains as far as exhaust and tunes, although under forced induction the benefit seems to go away.
does ceramic coating them keep the heat inside better? i like having the heat shield on the oem... esp since i have thrown codes for the ignition coil closest while on track. i'm going to try covering it up with some gold reflection tape and hope for the best. i did overpipe/front pipe/exhaust. may drop in the twin screw kit in the future, although easy to convince myself i'm not yet worthy with a trip to gingerman. |

Hey all. Been having a blast since getting my 86 a couple months ago, learning rwd and MT. Had some fun on a road trip through Appalachia carving through some mountain roads and learning (the hard way) how to start on a hill in Ashville, NC. At this point I think I'm ready to turn off some nannies.
However, I'm not sure which should go first between the VSC and TRAC. It's hard to tell based on the description in the owner's manual and digging through the forums which is better to start with to learn to (safely) get the tail out and bring it back in. Thoughts? |

I'd start with vsc/sport mode first. Not as intrusive as having tc fully on, but will correct the car if you throw the balance off. I would advise practicing away from public roads, preferably on a closed course, just to be safe.
Cheers

i've done vsc/sport on the track in the rain and it was still fun.
most of the time i've been doing vsc/sport on the track. my last session i finally went for traction off, although not full pedal dance; the 5 second trac hold. i was pretty cognizant of having to do a lot more myself. was nice to not have power cut when driving over berms too. at drift days i've done the 5 second hold and spun around. |

I've watched this video and it was pretty informative about the different traction control modes.

I run VSC Sport w/ TC off at autocross and it's still very manageable. Not to mention a lot more fun! Just make sure to do the pedal dance, or TC will come back on.

So Tuesday I sent a request for a retune to Moto-East. IT has been since June since my last tune. Already got my second tune from them, for free I might add, and i'm so excited to get it and the headers I ordered installed. Can't wait. Thanks again to everyone who suggested them, as well.

Thanks for all your input!
TC can come back on despite being deliberately turned off? That sounds annoying if not outright dangerous |
