OFT v2.076|Wayne Rom v130|OFT v4.01 Dynos

I have three tunes I wanted to test: the OFT v2.076 Stage 2 EL 93; Wayne Rom v130 EL 93; OFT v4.01 Stage 2 +. My exhaust: Tomei EL headers; Motiv Concepts HFC front pipe; Ark Design Racing Spec exhaust (N1 style dual canister that is LOUD with catless header and HFC FP).

It's remarkable how different these three tunes make the car sound. v2.076 is very crackly, raspy and has the loudest bark, with pops and crackles off throttle. Wayne Rom v130 is smoother, a little quieter, but still has some bark on throttle and crackle off. v4.01 is very subdued sounding in comparison to the other two. To my ears, the exhaust sounds muted, flat and bland on v4.01. Until about 6200 - 6500, when the valve timing seems to change and it almost sounds like VTEC kicking in.

I was curious whether tunes that make the car sound so different could make it perform differently on a dyno. I had my butt-dyno guess as to which one was the strongest, but I know butt-dynos can be deceiving. So I made an appointment at a local shop to do some pulls. Attached is the result.

I did three pulls on each tune -- well 4 on Wayne Rom v130, because we forgot to turn the fan back on for its first pull. Ideally, I would've given each tune 200 miles to be run-in on the car and come back on separate occasions to see their fullest potential. But then conditions would be different and the results maybe less comparable, even correcting for prevailing conditions. I flashed each tune fresh on the car before it did its pulls. All I did was follow the OFT on-screen instructions and let the car idle for a minute before beginning each tune's first pull.

The conditions tonight were about 67 deg F, pouring buckets outside resulting in 68% humidity inside the shop, 1100 ft above sea level.

Green is v2.076 Stage 2 EL 93
Red is v4.01 Stage 2+
Blue is Wayne Rom v130 for EL 93

Honestly, they all felt about the same in how hard they pulled on the dyno with one exception. Wayne Rom v130 and OFT v4.01 pull noticeably faster through the rev range than v2.076. I have to install the Dynojet viewing software to look at all the run files, but I believe v2.076's pulls were on average at least one second slower to reach peak power and torque than the other two's.

I like how v2.076 sounds the best on my car. But I'll run the Wayne Rom v130 because it sounds second best, pulls a little bit harder, fills in the torque dip a little bit better, and revs noticeably faster through the rev range.

BTW the dyno shop is Complete Performance in Marietta (770) 519-7525. The owner Dave is super nice, a real enthusiast, knowledgeable about dynos and tuning, and is open late. His shop is both a side business and a passion. I plan on recommending him to all of my auto-x and track friends.

All I changed on v4.01 was decrease the IAT on cold start back to -4 across the board, have the radiator fans kick in sooner per Wayne's settings in v130, and do the throttle tip in tweak in steve99's thread. All three tunes had these same changes. Oh, and v2.076 I changed the Load Limits to match Wayne's settings. In v4.01's def I don't see Load Limit settings so I couldn't change them.

Thanks. You are the man for dyno'ing and sharing this

The difference in exhaust note is probably because of the Exhaust AVCS. The 40 deg retard at low rpm gives it a raspy sound when getting on the throttle at low rpm, which is where most accelerations will begin when driven on the street:

I just went from V2 to V4. My butt dyno agrees with H1C. Stronger through the torque dip. A bit more fierce up around 6k rpm. Doesen't sound as mean but pulls better. Thanks OFT!!!

Increase the IAM to 1?

I'm curious about that too because if you still have the initial IAM set to .7 it will never have enough time to creep up to 1 before doing a dyno pull.

I totally forgot that v4.01 reduces initial IAM to 0.7, so no. How much of a difference do you think it would have made to v4.01's pulls? I'm asking sincerely because I am nowhere near an expert on what the various tuning parameters do to performance.

If v4.01 could be made to sound more to my liking, without adversely affecting its performance, I might be willing to do same-day comparison pulls between IAM set to 0.7 and IAM set to 1.

And if v4.01's large dead zone in accelerator pedal travel could be fixed as well -- it's worse in this area than v2.076 and Wayne v130.

The IAM is not set to .7 everytime you start the car. This is wrong and too many times mentioned here. Only if you remove the battery or if you reflash the ECU. Otherwise, it 'll start from the value you had the last time you drove the car. In most cases it should be fine with a dyno pull.

Yes it does. If the IAM drops below .7 it is remembered and resumed on the next start up. However if the IAM climbs over .7 on a drive, it will be reset back down to .7 on the next startup. Cheak you damn logs if you don't trust me. I know you are all about proof.

I don't have an IAM equal to 0.7. I have it equal by default equal to 1. Last time I did a log, I saw it beginning from 0.98. So, maybe your theory is correct. It might remember the old IAM only if it is below the default value.

I'm still learning myself but if I had to guess it probably saps about 321whp. Hahaha. Yeah, I have no clue. It's interesting how incredibly close your Wayne pull and OFT4 pull were. Not just in peak numbers but the entire plot.

I just looked at my logs from this morning. I have my IAM init set to .9. On cold start it was at .9 then 4 mins into the drive it was back up to 1.0. I made a pit stop for a very healthy pastry and chocolate milk at the gas station (Note: I didn't buy gas, just junk food. Hehe). On the next start it was back down to .9 but on this drive it went back up to 1.0 within 1.5mins. Probably due to already being up to temp. So on a dyno if the car was hot and you did a few runs it may have made its way back up. But it's probably better practice to set IAM init to 1.0 for dyno runs.

On another note, when I first flashed OFT4 my IAM was dropping as low as .35 and also running more lean than normal. I was scratching my head. So I went back to the backup of the flash I had before (Wayne v128). To my surprise my IAM was still tanking and AFR still wasn't right. I had just put a new drive belt on the car and thought maybe I knocked some intake piping off while doing the belt and maybe it was taking air after the MAF. That wasn't it. So I cleaned my MAF. That wasn't it. So then I was banking on it being bad fuel. Last night I was empty and refilled and the AFR and IAM were back to normal. I don't log consistently, now I'm curious how often I get bad gas. I only got to a few stations (Both Shell).
