I wanted the wife to get the iM but she didn't like the colour so got the radically different shade of blue on the Impreza.

I put one in my 2008 Honda Fit (which already had a pretty decent stock shifter for an econobox) and it feels far better. I suspect bushings could do the job too.
I think there is, and there is also a DIY "mod" to adjust the clutch grab location.

But im not going to bother with those. I've probably long passed the whole 'modding' stage (did enough of it when I had my 06 Corolla XRS) and I don't think its really worth the hassle.
Shifter and clutch action wasn't so bad that I can't stand them, I got used to it pretty quickly. Its all just adapting to the car and its quirks.

If I got an FRS/86/etc any mods I ever would have done to them most likely would have just been aftermarket wheels and MAYBE an exhaust (and that would just be to make the car sound more 'sportscar', not for performance or anything)

I loved the ride in it, and it had plenty of power.
Left foot braking is a better solution for FWD rotation IMO. Particularly if it has an open diff.

doesn't work well for 5 miles per hour though when you're just try to rotate the rear in 8" of snow

If there's actually 8"of snow on the road, the rear isn't going anywhere the front hasn't already been.

It has worked fine at 5mph for me in my Hyundai.

Also, .

grats OP, though my pick would have been the new Corolla Hatch just for the iMT function. I don't care about rev matching systems in general, but for a commuter car it is perfect since afaik it is the first MT car to seamlessly work with adaptive cruise control where you can use the clutch and swap gears without disengaging it. I hope this helps create some resurgence and interest in MTs..

You could set it on fire.

Oh wait, you want "Char Ed", not "Charred"....

Side note: I guess the colour scheme would be too garish, but it'd be nice to have an Amuro edition of something.

Well price, reliability and running costs were major considerations for this car so new cars were pretty much ruled out, and I chose to go Toyota due to bias and familiarity (owned a trouble free 9th gen Corolla XRS for 9 years in the past, and had a 11th gen Corolla rental with the same engine with CVT sans valvematic, when that got written off) I considered other options but the equivalent cars to this 2016 IM in this price range had at least double the km's, were older model cars, or were a class below. (ex. a Honda fit for the same price I would have had to get the previous generation model).

I definitely would have looked at the Corolla hatch, I like how it looks but i never actually test drove one.... lol. But if I was looking at a Corolla hatch I would have been looking at an 86 or FRS. FRS in the configuration I want (the nicer interior) aren't really out there, and an 86 GT costs too much at this time for me. Sometime down the line ill end up trading or selling the IM for an 86 GT, or a supra or a second gen 86...who knows.

Oh that brings me to another weird point.
The new Corolla has electronic E-brake. anyone ever drive a manual car with electronic ebrake? I would think it might be a bit....weird. Not sure how big of a deal it is but back when the Lexus IS250 had a manual the interior was tweaked to accommodate a handbrake (automatics had a foot brake), and the Camry when it had a manual also had a tweaked interior to have a handbrake.
