Pretty sure you used the wrong finger to wave at the NSX driver. The club I normally run with would probably black flag that guy.

Track:Nelson Ledges Road Course (9/27/14)

Car: Subaru BRZ

Mods: RCE T2's 400/400, HVT plates, RCE front bar, Whiteline endlinks, Whiteline rear subframe inserts, Braille 11.5lb battery, Carbotech XP12's Motul RBF600, Gramlights 57DR 17x9 +38, Conti ST class slicks (225/45/17), HKS catless header, stock front pipe, Perrin resonated catback, EcuTek tune (175whp/140wtq Mustang dyno), OEM DIT oil cooler.

Notes: There is only one clean, traffic free lap because nobody was waving me by like they were supposed to. This was an SCCA Club Trial. Best time was a 1:18.7, but I feel the car and possibly myself have 1:16's within range, given more than one flying lap in a 15 minute session.

Car:2014 Subaru BRZ Limited
Mods: WORKS Stage 1 Turbo Kit, OEM FR-S Springs, WRX "Crash Bolts", Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 Matte Black 17x8 +42, Michelin Primacy HP tires.
Notes: The downside of the tire swap was the 5-year-old nearly bald rear tires which severely compromised rear grip. Had to be very delicate with throttle inputs as any little bit could put the car into a slide. It’s fun, but not very fast or safe.

Track: NJMP Thunderbolt

Car: 2014 Scion FR-S Manual

Mods:
- Ferodo DS2500 front and rear brake pads,
- Michelin Pilot SuperSports (actually not so good for the track as they don't last long - especially the front ones due to a very soft sidewall),
- Brake fluid

Notes:
Group 3 with NASA on October 24, 2014. Final session of the day. Some traffic in the beginning of the session. Best time 1:41.99 in lap 10.

Feedback welcome!

Watch this pro's video starting with the last two laps at 25:27, and notice where he places the car when other cars are not interfering with his line: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCdR8xD6B8w"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCdR8xD6B8w[/ame].

That's the line around that race track. IIRC, he hits the T1 apex curb on one lap, and it upsets the car to no useful purpose. That curb is to be avoided unless you're in a race and you need it while defending.

Notice especially that he doesn't track all the way out after T4 apex, nor track all the way right prior to T5 turn-in; this is so that he's set up to use as much curb as possible in T5, enabling him to come out of T5 harder because he's placing his right-side tires down where the most camber is available.

Also, notice his braking prior to turn-in to T9. At 26:28 and again at 27:57, he's all the way to the right at the curb that's between T8 and T9, and then he straightens out so that he's straight-line braking. This allows him to carry his speed further, brake in a straight line, which gives him better control and asks much less of his left front tire (because he's not braking and turning right at the same time), and makes it much easier to make any minor adjustments at turn-in. It also makes it easier to move the car towards the right-side T9 apex curbing prior to moving over to the T10 curbing at its beginning.

The reason to get way down on the curb in T10 is the same as it is in T5: that's where the camber is for your loaded tires; in both cases, you put your unloaded tires way up on the curbing (or even further inside on the dirt if you want), and that will enable the loaded tires to use the most camber the turn has to offer. It's also what will make you fastest going through and coming out of those corners. You do the same thing in T2 - not for the camber (there isn't any), but because it's the fastest route between T1 and T2 track-outs. Anywhere on that track that you see red dirt on the inside of the apex curbing is where the fast drivers are placing their inside tires.

This short clip by the same driver explains the rationale for the straight-line braking sequence prior to T9:
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANGCVV9ZxTs"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANGCVV9ZxTs[/ame]

This one will explain why you're using as much T1 track-out curbing as possible:
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgIM6r7NpqE"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgIM6r7NpqE[/ame]

Notice how much more curb he's using in some spots; for example, the T2 apex and track-out, and the T12 track-out onto the main straight.

The turn numbers are the ones on this map which are not enclosed by red squares:

Yes, I have yet to figure out T9 and T10. Could probably shave off another 2-3 seconds by doing it the right way and setting it properly for T11-12 and the main straight.

I was there as well that weekend in the Red FR-S in TTD. Along with what @dradernh said about the line and using the curbs, I would pushing harder in some of the corners, especially in 3 and 12 (the fastest corners on the track). Below should be a graph of my GPS speed from the one session I did on street tires (235/40R17 ZII's):

This lap ended up being a 1:37.7, and I was still taking it relatively easy for most of the course as I was still adjusting to the vast difference in grip between my Hoosier's and the Dunlops. Pretty sure that I could be in the 1:36's on the street tires if I were to work on it.

Anyways, you should be able to see from my data that I have about 5mph on you in turn 3 (93 vs 88) and again 5-8mph through turn 12. For turn 12 you should be able to go flat out through the turn. Don't be afraid to take some extra curbing on the inside to give you more room to track out in both turns.

The other thing I would recommend is to not shift into 3rd so much. I would stay in 4th through turn 1 and 2, and only downshift into 4th for turn 4 and then downshift into 3rd for turn 5.

Unfortunately, my GoPro's battery died when I went out for my session on street tires, but here's a video of my best lap on the Hoosier's. I think my line is pretty good, but I'm still fairly new to the track as it was only my second time there. I was also over driving the car (typically carrying too much speed into the turn) a bit in some of the turns, which I need to work on. The idea of going slower to go faster has been a tough one for my simple brain to get around. Plus, managing oversteer in all the turns is fun! I was experimenting with trying to stay flat in 4th gear over turn 2 with the Hoosier's, but can't quite do it and was getting a lot of oversteer and dropped 2 wheels off a few times, which ended up freaking out the ABS system a few times, turning it off which was not cool.
