And thanks, I can see adding trail running through the forest being ideal to preparation for these events as well.

As for shoes, I always buy dedicated sneaks, shoes, boots for all certain occasions, so it won't bother me ruining new $100+ sneaks for these races.

The only thing that's bugging me right now is the sock choice. I know when socks do get wet and start to rub with the sole of your foot and the sneaker it can cause blisters or sometimes lead to warts (i think). So far I'm seeing results in my search to go with wool socks or some say athletic socks still do the trick. Anyway that is probably my only concern at the moment.

If I have more questions I'll drop it over in this thread for you or anyone else to give me some advise.

Thanks again @MF_DEUCE.

P.S. Free beers?!?!?!!
yea, when it comes to socks it really depends on how the feel of the shoe is against your feet. I wear minimalist shoes that have little to no heel padding which requires you to run differently, so when my feet/socks do get wet it doesnt affect my running as much. i ran in those same shoes with no socks and i regret it, all the mud and rocks went between my feet and shoe. so it was as if i was constantly running on mud when i wasnt. its all based on comfort, and what works for some doesnt for others.

I actually follow a blog by one of the top Spartan Race runners, Hobie Call, he talks a lot about events, shoes, how to prepare, etc. It's a pretty good place to start if you really want to get the best of these runs.

Spartan Race and (I believe) Tough Mudder give out one free beer after (or before) your race, as long as your of age and still have your ticket of course. lol

They generally give you a free beer at the end. As long as your heat time isn't too late. :P

Often time the beer choices are OK and sometimes they really suck. lol

However, some of them don't give you medals and free shirts.

Just looking over what Hobie Call went over about taking a marathon runner over a crossfit competitor is pretty much what I was thinking. That's why I need to get back into training to build my endurance and push it beyond than I'm accustomed to and that will be my key to breezing through the obstacles.
And I have never trained bare foot or used a bare foot training shoe outside. That I'll have to give a try as well. My guess is that I'll lean towards getting a sneaker that has plenty of cushioning for a softer ride for my feet.
And I'm not sure if it would be wise to have a drink before or after a long endurance event like the Spartan Race anyway.
