I got sick from reading this discussion about the Twins

http://jalopnik.com/5927710/does-the...s-need-a-turbo

Sorry if it's old news (which it most definitely is, considering the dates of the posts)

But I want to hear thoughts from those who have endured the first couple years with the twins. Do these neanderthals indeed carry valid and worthy claims/calls-to-action, or are their naivete and judgment on what the platform should be totally in the wrong?

This forum is littered with people who agree with that article.

In a perfect world, it would come with 250-270 WHP out of the box, but nothing is perfect. Discounting the whole car because of it is silly, however.

As much as I LOVE Jalopnik (and it's a lot!) what I've come to realize over the years is many of their members aren't strictly speaking driving enthusiasts. Car enthusiasts sure, but not driving enthusiasts. IE, most people just sort of drive a relatively boring or unremarkable car while constantly pinning over some object of automotive affection and armchair quarterbacking manufacturers decisions, rather than buying a car specifically for the act of driving, modding it (or not) and running a bunch of autoX/Trackdays/Weekend Cups to improve their skills. Nothing wrong with either part of the car hobby, but a light, cheap proper sports car appeals more to the actual driving enthusiast rather than the person who is going to drool over the next AMG simply because it has 900 Horsepower.

Different strokes for different folks really. Some people on Jalopnik will always say "But you can buy X amount of V6 mustangs for that price!", just seeing a car as a dollars per hp equation. Me? I just enjoy passing the mustangs out on the track

They bump it up to250 hp there will be just as many people saying it should be 275 minimum, bump it up to 275 then it should be 300 and so on and so on!
Then as soon as it hits max HP the same people will say it is too heavy, doesn't handle right, looks horrid, and so on and so on.
Many , many of these people will never even drive one! Even on here some of the most vocal "not enough power" rants start with "well I just took one on a 5 minute test drive and let me tell you...)

I don't actually care what others think. So long as I'm happy, that's all the car needs to do for me. I will not buy a car thinking its flawed right out of the dealer. If the test drive failed to impress you, the car is not worthy to buy. That should apply to every car.

I got mine with every intention of going at least supercharged based on articles like this.
Now after driving it for 4 months have totally changed my mind and will be leaving it as is.
So between the two of us alone we have shown how you can change your opinion based on what we actually get/want from the car.

I think the only reason I am going FI is because my last couple cars I kept going more and more powerful until I cut that in half with the BRZ, and now it is hard to see a lot of my friends and my dad too walk away from me in a straight line while still having the cornering speeds.

That, and the engine totally lacks pizazz that I want in a high revving NA engine.

Nothing is ever "good enough" for some.

I found the cancer analogy in the thread title to be a bit offensive. I have my reasons for saying so. I hope you never have to find out why this would be yourself.

I get you and I wasn't judging at all as many do want that little extra zip.
I just found that as my DD the acceleration is just fine as I rarely get to "open it up" in a straight line anyway.
Who knows, maybe if I get bored in a year or so I will change my mind back to my original plans and slap something on there.

Oh I wasn't thinking you were judging I was just explaining my point of view. I also don't daily drive mine so its mostly lapping/auto x and highway speed stuff.

I bought mine with the idea of keeping it as a weekend car to enjoy a weekend drive, some nice music, go out with girls. then I bumped into the local owner's club... and then there was no turning back.

Suspension? Check.
Brakes? Check.
Body? Check.
Exhaust system? With exception of header, check.
Engine mods? going for ECUtek, and intake... work in progress.

I have everything I need to tackle the supermarket's parking lot... (and 3-4 autox a year).

I think the car is great NA, just do the extra mods for it.

When I bought mine I promised I wouldn't even modify it, before I had signed the final papers I had already ordered stuff
