Car Teaches Driver

Preface: My wife and I have been together for 38 years, and it's been and still is wonderful. Having said that, the starry-eyed, newlywed, honeymoon-style constant-amazement-at-the-awesomeness-of-one's-spouse period has been over for quite some time, and we no longer feel the need to spontaneously compliment one another on most daily, weekly, or monthly accomplishments. Not a negative... just the result of a lifelong of mutually enjoyable familiarity.

The other day, we were driving home from a few enjoyable hours at our favorite local grub'n'pub establishment (GREAT burgers and service.. check out the Bull'n'Bear joint a mile or so from Carrier Circle if you're ever in the Syracuse area on Tuesday night.. best $4 you'll ever spend). I was driving, having passed on the beer that evening due to a round of antibiotics. Enjoyed a couple good pulls in second gear up to the highway speed limit, and some nice twisty navigation on the way home. After the second to last turn and pull back up to speed on our way home, my wife said, "Man, you really drive this car well!".. I looked over, and she had a big ol' grin on her face. I've been driving RWD manual cars for almost four decades, always thought I had a pretty good grasp of the concept, and taught her how to drive manual on one of our Fiat Spiders back in the 80s, but the FR-S has really been an inspiration to me to go a bit further, pay more attention to detail, and trust the car to do exactly what I ask it to do as long as the request is made competently. The fact that she noticed, well...

Thank you, ToyoBaru!

That is all..

Barry

good woman you have there that appreciates a sports car being driven spiritedly

+1 to you man

unlike one that freaks out and never wants to ride shotgun with you ever again

"why do you do that (me downshifting)?...i don't like it when it makes that noise"

The most complimentary thing I got out of my wife in her grand total of 20 minutes in my car before refusing to ever ride in it again was "Well we didn't die".

Well now, that is a nice story .....

CONGRATULATIONS on your 38 year happy marriage ......

The only time I can remember mrs humfrz complimenting me on my driving was trying to dodge a deer up in Canada. Well, I did avoid a head on collision, but I did clip the deer.

She never criticized my driving while we were in the miata, which had no nannies, but in the FR-S with it's nannies, is a different story. You know, she says, "I just know I'm going to die in this car some day".

Go figure ......

Ya got a good woman, @MuseChaser.

My wife only has two comments when she rides in my car:
1. "Geez, slow down! You're driving too fast! I'm getting car sick!"
2."Geez, do you HAVE to slow down to an almost complete stop every time you go over the smallest dip in the road or driveway?"

My wife used to hate when I drove her old Saturn "fast". When we got the BRZ we found out that her issue was being thrown around by the body roll. Since this is well-handled in the BRZ, she LOVES riding in it! We use it for weekend-getaways-for-two often!

Exactly. We've taken two road trips from central NY to North Carolina this summer, plus one to Delaware, and loved every mile.

That's not fair. I have to drive super slow. Mine is the scared (brace for impact during corners) type. Was the same in my old mr2.

After my wife's first ride in mine, she said "Do you HAVE to take every corner at max G-force?"

I said "Yes why wouldnt you?"

Car Teaches Driver

My wife hated my car at first, but has grown to love it. Twisty uphill sections are her favorite, she says it feels like a rollercoaster ride.

Recently on an 8-hr drive, without even looking up from her tablet she said, "Can you get us there faster?" She didn't realize that I was already going faster than I should have been.

"Sure honey" 😊

My wife says the BRZ was smoother and more enjoyable to ride in than the CVT Impreza.
The Twins are setup well.

Great story! I love that feeling when you and the car you're driving are connected and moving in sync with each other. I imagine jockeys sometimes feel that same connection with their horse.

Lol some of you guys have some nice detailed compliments from your significant other. My wife has only ever given me one compliment and it was going around a roundabout at a brisk pace.

Her exact word was "STOP!!!!!". I'll take that as a compliment.
