HURRY NEED ADVICE!!
About three weeks ago I found a Firestorm FR-S that would be coming into the states around this time now. The dealership (Lustine Toyota) told me that if I put a deposit down, that the car would be mine when it came in. It was red and manual so I had no problem with putting a deposit down since it's exactly what I wanted. I get the email for the specs on it about a week ago when it had arrived in port in New York. Needless to say I have been so excited about it this whole week and I was told to expect it on July 2nd. While at work today, the dealership leaves a voicemail on my phone at 4 pm. I get off work at 5 and see the message and immediately call them. To my absolute surprise the "manager" decided to sell the car to somebody else during the one hour between when he had called me to when I had returned it. It's really hard to express how mad I am about this, but my luck may have turned. There is a white FR-S coming in tomorrow that nobody had claimed. The problem is that it was a demo car in Japan with 2000 miles on it already. I was told that it was not ever driven hard and that I would get $500 off msrp. Any thoughts?? Can I trust a "demo car"? Especially one that is so sought after and driven around in Japan.
Thank you and please give me your thoughts before 9 am tomorrow!!! |

A Scion FRS from Japan that was tested on??? Uh how? They usually used the Toyota GT86 since it brought more features than the basic spec GT86 which is what the FRS is here. I think it was one of those that went around the U.S. as one of those "pre-release" models...
IDK I may be wrong, but "an FRS from Japan" sounds kinda off to me.

Right, it better be Toyota badged and a GT86. If so, that's a pretty neat deal but the Scion brand doesn't really exist in Japan AFAIK.
I'd ask for more info on it as well as a VIN. If it's just a FR-S they used over there as a test car, I'd ask for a free extended warranty on top of the $500 discount (just to cover possible wear and tear from whoever drove those 2K miles).

Very true. If he misspoke and meant demo car in the US, do you think people broke it in poorly and abused it? And is it worth the $500 discount? The extended warranty is a good idea

find another dealer!
dema cars in the US were driven in the track and all. so it's guaranteed that drivers would abuse it and drove it over 5K rpm |

A new batch just arrived in VA yesterday/today. I just picked mine up today and I am sure you can find one if you are willing to drive a little ways. Either way that demo car has probably seen some abuse, just search the forums and see what the sales reps were doing in these things as they toured dealerships. Also $500 off? At this point it is a used car IMO and you are getting screwed. Go to another dealer ASAP! |

Why would you still deal with people who took your deposit and then didn't follow through with their promises? Head to a different dealership, they lied to you and screwed you over once already.

Dont let the excitement push you into the arms of liars. They skrewed you once and now are trying to sell you a used car for only 500 under msrp? My ass. Go elsewhere. Unless they offer you significantly more off, or a free 6yr/100k bumper to bumper then dont even bother. "demo car" means "driven like hell by MANY different people"

Seriously, it's time for a different dealership. Go to www.dealerrater.com and find a few highly rated dealerships within about 300 miles, then call all of them. I bet one of them will be able to find the car you're looking for and you'll have a WAY better experience.

New dealership.
That's a load of BULL. I'd be so mad. Also, don't settle on a color. Get the one you want. My hardest decision was the color! |

I agree that on principle of what they did I'd go somewhere else unless they sweeten the deal considerably.
