It's new.
The niceness will pass. It's full of enthusiasts right now. In a couple of years when more and more n00bs and 16 year olds get the car as a hand-me-down, and start asking more and more redundant questions like, "What's a sound tube?" The original members will either have left to the Cayman boards, or stick around like that old drunk uncle in the corner. |

This forum is nothing like a certain Subaru Impreza Owners Club based out of North America. Or any BMW forum I've had the misfortune of being on. I never even made a post on a BMW forum in the years I owned one, I just used it to search for stuff because I was too horrified to post. This is easily tied for most respectful forum I've been apart of along with everythingcelica.com

This one has been pretty nice so far. It really depends on your chapter for the most part normally. I loved my chapter on Nasioc and always had good luck with Supraforums or E90post, but Club WRX wasn't the best.

To be completely honest, this is one of the reasons I stopped going to meets and stopped posting on here. When the car was first revealed to when it debuted, I felt like this place was pretty hectic, I myself grew angry with some of the members. Most kids or young adults my age feel as if they are owed some respect when they forget to give it because someone else has a different way of viewing something.
IMO, i feel that this hatred or competitiveness really grew after the FF series got bigger. More people started "challenging" or judging others based off what others rode. People's aesthetics were called RICER. Come to think of it, I feel that the term Ricer needs to be alleviated from everyone's mind. That word is SO misused and undefinable, everyone seems to have a different meaning of the word and if you try to experiment with your ca a certain way then people start calling you RICER. Grow up, show some respect, enjoy life and most importantly ENJOY YOUR CAR.

Here's the thing. A 'community' will always have different kinds and types of people from different backgrounds. They will have different beliefs, preferences, and tastes.
So naturally that's going to bring in the good and the bad. It's pretty unavoidable. As the car gets older and into more hands the forum population will change, for better or for worse. Personally I think it's going to trend towards the latter you can already see it in some threads.

I personally comment on someone's car as if he were my friend, it's not for ME to be nice as much as the other to take the comment. I've been on car forums long enough to remember time when keywords like "trolls" and "haters" when non existent. People were actually putting effort in their communications…even if it was sarcastic.
If you are not open to criticisms, just don't post pictures. Problem with people insulting you from head to toe has more to do with personality problems than community as a whole. Every place has its assholes…I personally don't bother. The other problem is the car world has its own fashion that goes in and out of style, some people will follow and other will do what they want. Friction!

Nah, the longer this car's out, the worse these forums will get. I predict there'll be a wave of kids picking up used ones next summer, and there'll be a whole new batch of "wuts this VSC button do?" and "weres my clutch? -fIrEsToRm-6AT" threads. And those of us who learned on our own how to use the search function (not just on this site, but *gasp*... on the Internet as a whole!) will become a little more cranky, a little less tolerant. After that, well... it'll be interesting to see what happens. |

I dish it out, I welcome it. I'm a big boy and you should be too. Simple.
I dont wanna get banned for being direct, blunt or honest, but seems folks focus on the delivery, not the content. I'm here for meat. Smoked, raw, grilled, fried, whatever. I'll take it any way I get it. I wont complain if you say my mod sucks, or is stupid, thats your opinion, and I welcome you to voice it or I would keep it well hidden in my garage. right? This place is like kindergarden with grown men crying that their feelings are hurt. Its sad to watch, and hard to not laugh, if you ask me. I belong to other forums where this is not the case, whiners are driven away or driven to manhood. Like real life. Stupid modification threads darwinistically get shat on and there need be no love for a Land Rover on 22" rims, no matter what the F your style is, for crying out loud do that to a denali, not british steel. People get e-harassed into complete submission for stuff like that on the forums I hang out on when I am not here. No one needs to show respect for ghetto-fab rovers on the rover forums, take that 'personal joy' and keep it to yourself, there is no love to be found for such a modification on any british truck forum, period. Period. Some things suck. But if you say that on this forum, its considered out of line or harsh. Mods threaten to ban you here, not cause you threatend to kick someone ass, but cause you declared their mod a FAIL, or them an asshat, sudden there is a firrgin moderator to their rescue, locking down threads if its not what they think we should be discussing. Its in poor community management interests, and a standard I dont understand, whats wrong with letting the community self police? On the other foreign car forums, "we eat our own" if you cant learn to walk, run, and fly, get eaten. such is life. The real world doesnt afford the artificial protections HachiRoku and other mods afford you here. Success is hard to argue, faster is faster, and function first, form second. Its hard to respect 'ricerism' (no racial slur intended) or modding without a planned outcome, set of goals or for that matter, if you want to show your style, go find a nice hat, or paint job. Trying to make your car louder, and calling it a mod, just to make it louder, would be cause for instant e-execution on a porsche911 forum. Could you imagine stuff being sold on turner motorsport to make sound that didnt actually add Horsepower? Blasphemy. Vendors would be crucified. The FRS/BRZ community, and its moderation protocol, will evolve in time. Its the internet. You're gonna get heckled, ridiculed, commended and stroked, and hung to dry if given the chance, welcome to virtual floggings, hangings, and group worship when you do something right or come correct when you failed. The internet evolved out of anarchy, when apple was a minority. Now, we live in www.e-disney-apple-land. If you dont want to get laughed at or looked at stay home. Read, dont sign up, there are many more silent lurkers than there are posters, and not every idiot with an idea should have a voice and a thread, and if they do, what wrong with calling stupid, stupid? Sorta like what they did to NYC, went and messed up a fine city, soon you'll buy tickets to visit NYC at the magic kingdom in Florida.. Failures are fun to watch-as are train wreck threads, even more fun to declare, as much as this is a hobby and the forums are educashunal, and all, there is a joy to socialization, be it real or virtual, and asshatism is rewarded as is genuine creativity and successful modding. It doesnt make you a bad person for having some fun on line at someone elses expense. If you can laugh at me, please do. If you can make a cartoon post out of my mod, my fail, please, have at it. Its no fun if we are here to just be geeks, some of us are hooligans, clowns and nothing is truly ill meant, its all in the name of our first world problems, shall I go Perrin or Nameless. Vortech or Innovate. Woe is me, you all take this community etiquette thing too far. Welcome to the locker room, and sorry you dont like my wet towel antics. I like criticism. I take it in stride. Not everyone can be a grown up when told they did something stupid. Some forums I frequent have no policing, its evolution at its best. Others have the mods coem raining down as you as soon as a thumbsucker goes-a-crying. I've never been the kid who cried 'teacher' when accosted. We're here to have fun. Big boy fun. 100mph fun. This is a valuable community tho I do feel its over moderated, and comes across as more of a revenue driven task, ie, how can we sell vendor memberships with members squabbling mentality. I dont need to respect your modification. I dont need to like your moderation. Not everyone here agrees with everything. This is called, Americanism, and democracy. This is a great platform, we have some great vendors, and great members who add value, keep the place sane, and fun. Theres nothing wrong with a good debate, a solid arguement, some conflict, a little drama. There is no fun watching G rated movies when youre an adult. Bring me car porn, bring me amazing successes and noteworthy failures. Welcome to life, interweb or whatever, have fun here. I do. Dont let anyone rub you the wrong way, rub them back, and remember, its just the internet. Its all virtual, easy come easy go, you want real? meet me for a beer or coem to my crib for a BBQ or lets go to a track session, and I'm not so mean and scary after all. Sorry I cant revel in awe about how loud you made your car sound via your butchery, and deletion of exhaust componentry. Give yourself a pat on the back tho, so long as youre happy, I'm happy too. Smile. Now lets enjoy that beer. And dont band me for posting this! |

This is EXACTLY what I mean, what made you suspect I was angry? Dont psychoanalyze me, you're not doing so well on that. I'm NOT trying to piss anyone off. This sort of tone interpretation makes this forum more a psychology help group than a place we talk about modding cars, no one is angry. Geez. Its called being direct Get that? good.
