Wing Mirrors Folding Sync Issue - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I have a 2015 Toyota 86 GT and a year ago or so someone reversed into my right wing panel and also pushed the right wing mirror in.

Ever since then the right-wing mirror has never been in sync when I fold the wing mirrors in. I do this a lot ever time I park and partly so people won't knock it (again) and to give others some room when they are walking alongside my car in a car park.

When my car was getting the panel replaced and painted the shop made note of the wing mirror not folding in sync with the other. I later found out that they didn't replace the mirror or forgot to do it when I collected my car. I wasn't happy about it and told them to do something about it, so they said I could go to Toyota and ask them to fix it and just bill the insurance company. This is what I did, but the dealer said it cost $700 and might as well replace both. The insurance company thought the quote from Toyota was not acceptable and so did I.

A long story short the body shop replaced the right wing mirror, but still to this day it is still out of sync with the other and it bothers me as all you 86, FRS, BRZ owners know anything that doesn't look right or sound right it will piss you off LOL.

My thoughts are that I could take off the mirror cover and maybe there is a gear that is connected to the electronic motor and maybe in the accident the gear had been pushed out of place?

Has anyone experienced this or know how I could fix it?

Yeah I believe they do, as well as a country in Europe. Might be Germany?

Countries with narrow roads and tight parking spaces get folding mirrors standard on a LOT of vehicles that don't even offer them as an option in the states.

Not sure Australia falls into that category, but apparently they've fooled the Japanese.

In the USA we have wide beautiful roads that are smooth as glass!

I believe it was a Japan version from an ECU perspective even if I bought it in Australia.

Our GCC (middle east) specs also get the folding mirrors. My driver side makes some noise when opening or closing and after reading OP post, I am starting to get the placebo affect that mines also out of sync. Tried getting it replaced through insurance but the garage owner said its pretty common in our region.

My drivers(RHS) mirror folds back slower than the LHS. Always has, no accidents..

1/4 second delay before the RHS closes and catches up with the LHS. Is yours more?

All Euro spec models have power folding mirrors

I can see why they have it in the markets they do, and I hope OP gets it worked out.

But you add stuff like that, bit by bit, then you have a 3200lb "sports" car.
