Brake rotor damaged in shipping = still ok?

Hi,
I received my Centric front rotors, and one of them is damaged on the interior edge. It almost looks like it was grinded by something?!?

I'd like to have your opinions if it could be a problem, or if it's just cosmetic issue.
I track the car.

My options would be
1- Return the rotor for an exchange (would really like to avoid that hassle if possible)
2- Run it like that, hoping it's not going to vibrate or be unbalanced or crack.
3- Maybe use a grinder/dremel to remove a similar amount of metal on the other side (180deg), to balance things

See pictures, for reference the damage on the left is 1 inch long.

Call, talk to them see what they say. Hard to figure what happened. was it sealed in the bag? Was there a piece in the bag?

The last thing you want is to be worrying about one of the few things that help save your ass in an emergency, get it replaced.
You paid for it initially because you didn't want to worry, right?

it almost looks like a machine mark for balancing the rotor on the edge but the root of it looks like a chip. cant tell from the pictures.

the vanes should be smooth to promote laminar not turbulent flow so the most heat is removed at the surface. that's extremely rough where the black paint is.

send them back at get OE rotors, Zimmerman, sebro, ect

There was no piece inside the bag. The bag was teared at this exact spot, and the box damaged at this spot also. So it was damaged once in the manufacturer box (but the distributor shipping box was ok).

It's not to balance. The bag was teared and box damaged at this exact spot.
Centric rotors has been used by a lot of people on the track and are fine for light track duty (when they are not damaged, at least...)

Tracking the car? I would want an exchange. A weak point in the rotor like that would make me nervous and I'd expect cracks to start there a lot sooner than they should.

They do machine brakes in that area to balance, however that looks like a chip. A brake component is critical. I would not accept a “it will be ok” answer. Get a new one that is not damaged. You paid for it!

With a picture, they should send you a new one without requiring you to send that one back. Should be relatively painless.
If they do in fact want you to send it back they should provide a shipping label since its defective.

I want an exchange even if I'm not tracking the car.

If it were me, I'd look over the whole thing closely and barring anything else like cracking or out-of-roundness - I'd run it (on the racecar).

It's 'functionally' a block of iron and it looks like maybe it dropped on cement just right and chipped off a tiny bit of metal. In fact, because Centric has good quality controls and generally makes good stuff - I'd bet you're safer with this on your car than an over-the-counter Autozone special made in china that get's put on millions of cars year.

I contacted the seller, and he sent me a return label and agreed to exchange it.
So one less thing to worry that may or may not break on the track
Thanks guys
