Yes, from a local hardware chain. Masking the controller and all the cables took most of the time.

I was inspired by Mighty Car Mods [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1QL9veQaNg"]Black Intercoolers Mythbusted - YouTube[/ame]

Figured it may help keep the controller a bit cooler.

Got word that my number is up and any day now the hand of god (aka Robfts) will be tapping my shoulder to let me get a Phantom kit!!

And so here are some general questions for you owners:
  1. Any reason to NOT order the batteries now, and wait to get the kit first?
  2. Recently Rob posted about a 12v-to-24v charger (http://www.batterystuff.com/battery-...ll/MC24EX.html) is this in lieu of getting the Phantom Aux Charger, or in addition to, or what?
  3. Any particular tools, tapes, wires, meters, etc... That I should get that would help the process along?

Thanks.

First off, congratulations. You're going to love how the Phantom ESC transforms your car. Now on to the questions.

1. If you've sent payment to Rob or are doing so soon, order your batteries now. They may take a few days to a week to arrive.

2. I think @Robftss was saying that the linked 24v charger could be used in lieu of the Phantom branded Aux charger. He or @fenton can confirm this.

3. Items to have
a. Zip ties (large and small)

b. Electrical tape

c. Some extra wire loom (large diameter and small for cable dressing).

d. 3M adhesion promoter (1 pack should be enough). To make sure the voltmeter double sided tape sticks to the adhesion resistant interior trim. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/3M-6396-Adhesive-Promoter-Packets/dp/B00RY8L9U6/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1440107931&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=3m+6396+adhesion+promoter"]Amazon.com : 3M 6396 Adhesive Promoter 3 Packets : Office Products[/ame]

e. An extra set of hands is helpful, but not neeeded.

f. Have the installation video (for the Phantom ESC and the PROcede if needed) bookmarked on your phone, tablet or laptop for quick reference.

g. If you're tuning with an OpenFlashTablet, have the ESC tune map loaded on the OFT. If you have access, later step up to e85.

h. If you're installing the PROcede controller have the PROcede software loaded on your laptop and at least @Sojhinn 's latest map downloaded. You can also test out @KoolBRZ 's

i. you probably won't need a voltmeter, but just in case having one laying around could help.

j. a magnetic small parts tray to keep fasteners from getting lost.

k. time, don't do this in a hurry. It's relatively quick but take your time anyhow.

l. and the basic hand tools for the kit install.
Holler on the forums if you run into any issues during your install. One of us is bound to be watching.

For starters, your tun without the ESC is really good. It feels great and the extra oomph at the low end is great.

However, when I got the urge to push the pedal down... The ESC is something else. You feel it kick in, the voltage drops, and bam you're at 70 mph before you know it.

Then you back off, coast back down to 55 and the voltage is at 28.4 again.

So I took it on the highway, and I basically ran out of MPH on the car before I got below 15 V of boost. I'm not sure in what world you'd need the full 90 seconds of boost.

It's really something. I think I'll change the throttle position closer to 60-70% if I can, and that'll be just fine for me...

I can imagine how great this will be with morel linear control. You all have done such great work and I really can't be happier with it. I don't think I'll really need any more power after this, especially with the Procede to refine it.

Also thanks to @tyrantcf for letting me pay him back over time for the ESC. I'm basically making his new car payments for the next few months, but it's worth it.

If you're a perfectionist like I am you'll want to have:

1. mini/micro fuse (forget what amp rating, but it was red) and soldering iron to replace the standard size fuse that the kit comes with.
2. Something to plug up the sound tube hole in the firewall (what you chose depends on whether you intend to fish the wires through there or not). I went with some rolled up foam gasket.

thanks for the replies guys, VERY helpful!

...Looks like there's a sale going on with the dump batteries (which makes them cheaper than the starter batts), should I just buy 3 dump batts and use 1 as the starter?
Dumps:

Starter:

Thanks.

No problemo.

Try to stick with Rob's recommendations (2x ETX16 dumps, 1x Odyssey starter). They've been tested to work, are cheap and very reliable, plus the included kit hardware is matched to these batteries.

Get the metal jacket pc680. It handles more heat.

Well, after a long drive (not for me), hilarious "test drive", bump starting the car in front of a storage place in the pitch black and dealing with a weird fuse issue, @BRZ-y is now a new proud owner!
