Wedssport knockoffs... Rota Titan 17 x 8 +45. $800 instead of $2k. Saved $1200 went to tires and Tein Flex Z's. Didn't look back.

Sorry for the delay. Work trip to Cherry Hill NJ then off to Monterey CA. I'll be back tomorrow. So far so good though. No huge change in ride quality. Yakima rack with fairing makes zero noise up to 80.

Nice, I just got the same wheels in 17x9, hard to beat for the price. Only downside is they are a few lbs heavier than the Weds.

Coming from someone who has a lot of experience with autobody/paint correction/detail work.

Orange peel is exactly what he posted, and generally you wet sand and polish it out if you want to get rid of it.
yes! exactly... that's just shitty quality standard they are getting us used to. it makes me furious.

That's my rear hood... from factory. Still not calling it "orange peel"???

Yea, it sucks. My car is similar but not overly bad.

Let's face it though, the large majority of car owners have no idea what orange peel is, and would never be able to spot it unless it was specifically pointed out to them. That may be why that painting process is so widely used.

I am astonished at every black car I see on the road that looks like Animal from the Muppets went at it with a rotary and sandpaper. But, most people don't even notice the crime.

Only people with an eye for that kind of thing notice, generally. I had my own detailing business for while and like mentioned, you can remove it (or most of it) with the proper processes. Still sucks though!

Yeah I never knew or heard of the "orange peel' before, I did notice that in a few of my body panels my reflection was wavy persay... but now I can't unsee it. I'm thinking of taking the car to a place that does the ceramic coating and I think they will take care of that during their clay bar and buffing process...

is it doable with a D/A , or is sanding required?
like, can you reach a mirror finish without killing yourself?

Yea you could. You would have to use a heavy cut for the first past, most likely with a microfiber cutting pad. Then polish it out. It is a lot of work but doable.

Or, like another said, wet sanding then polishing out. But, you have a lot more chance to mess things up with that approach, unless you know what you are doing.

Personally, for a car that is a DD or driven regularly, I would just give it a one step polish and call it good.
