No way I could pass up on the Time Attack Red PTUNING exclusive piping. I just need to get my valvecover to match.

Totally forgot to report in but I passed emissions with 0 issues. The car had all the readiness checks complete and I didn't have to do anything to the car (besides Drive 140mph during the weekend).

So my kit should be here in a week I guess. I'll probably be doing a DIY install at the base auto hobby shop with the help of some friends. We will be swapping out the clutch and installing the turbo kit.

Any tips on doing the install? Materials I should have on hand so we don't have to make runs to pick up stuff in the middle of the install?

You will want to drain the transmission prior to removal so if you don't plan to reuse the fluid, I would get some new transmission fluid. I personally prefer to replace the flywheel bolts (if replacing flywheel) and pressure plate bolts with new when doing a clutch/flywheel install. The thing the base hobby shops generally don't have is any kind of fluid, lube, or grease you may need. I would bring some anti-seize, high temp Teflon paste, engine oil, grease, and coolant. If you have tools, I would bring any of them you think you might need and even those you don't think you will need. Keep them separate from any of the hobby shop's tools. While they tend to have a great selection, sometimes they are missing that one tool you have at home that would get the job done. I have had to make multiple such trips back to my house to get a tool I own to finish a job on a friend's car.

Luckily, the PTuning guys are generous enough to include a manual that states the necessary tools and other items needed for the install. If you don't already have it, get it from them. Also keep the BRZ/FRS factory service manual on hand for torque specs and other references. Get various sizes of spring clamps for the vacuum tubes - clamp all of them down. Remove the factory overpipe while the tranny is out, will save you some hassle. Pay close attention to the exhaust tightening order in the instructions, it is very important. Bring blue tape, plastic bags and a sharpy; label your hardware when removing/installing. I agree with Tut, it is a good time to change tranny/diff oil while down there. Last thing I can think of is to also pay close attention to aligning the VBand on the overpipe so the intake coupler is positioned properly so it does not touch the overpipe. I wrapped my 4" coupler in DEI reflective tape and I suggest everyone do this. Good luck, feel free to PM me for questions on the fly.

Agreed with @rb6freak. You will be playing around with the positioning a bit to get it down. And I wrapped my 4" coupler as well. I actually trimmed the coupler down a bit to get it to NOT touch the header or overpipe. Be patient. IIRC we removed some brackets that some plugs were hanging on to so that we could create some clearance. PM or post with questions! Good luck!

+1 on everything that has been said so far. Read the entire set of instructions several times so you have a pretty good idea of what needs to be done before you start working on the car. You'll need a tube of gasket maker for the oil return plate, but that's in the instructions too.

**** EDIT*****

Thanks for the info but it's all for naught. See next post.

**************

Thanks guys. Much appreciated!

Turbo/Clutch Install Shopping List

Transmission fluid (stock?)
Flywheel and pressure plate bolts (dealer?)
Anti seize (Autozone)
High temp Teflon paste (Autozone?)
Oil (suggestions for street use in Arizona?)
Grease (Autozone)
Coolant (stock?)
Spring clamps (Autozone)
Blue painter's tape
Sharpie
Plastic bags
DEI reflective tape (?)
Gasket maker (Autozone)

All my tools are in storage and pretty much inaccessible. I'll read the manual a couple times and pre-scout the hobby shop to see what tools they don't have, then go purchase as needed. Also I will hunt down and download the shop manual tonight.

Edit:

Change of plans. Damn hobby shop is only open from Tuesday through Friday. I'd need to work on it during a weekend. Guess I'll be dropping the car and parts off at a local shop.

Few questions guys:

Is anyone running this on a fully built motor/e85?

What kind of max HP/TQ do u think would be possible/is done so far?

Any common problems with this kit?

Anything in other kits you wish this one had or instead? Could those items be purchased separately and fit into this kit?

We have built a short block for a customer running our kit, but he's running our WMI kit not e85. He's around 450whp on 93 octane w/WMI.

The max power we've done so far with the ptuning turbo system on a GTX-3076R is 501whp @ 20psi on e67: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58935

BTW, the stock block is not good for 500whp, ask me how I know

We will be building another built long block later this summer and will test it on e85 with the GTX30R once we max that out, we will fit in a GTX35R. But that's going to be a big jump since you will need to address all the other supporting mods, cooling, tranny, axles, driveshaft, diff, clutch, tires, aero, etc.

What are you looking to do with all this power?

That sucks. My favorite local one is only closed on Monday, so it is best to start on Friday or Saturday and make sure you are finished by Sunday. Any other bases you can drive to?
