Has anyone gone ahead and installed an aftermarket alarm system such as viper, Clifford, or any other type of security measure? If so what?

I'm actually planning on using one. The only thing that concerns me is that I live in Vegas and temperatures can go well past 110F in the car, especially during this time of the year. So in regards to the metal on the wheel lock, I have a feeling it'll mess up the leather on the steering wheel due to the heat....
