Difficult to open windows part way 2019 Limited

OK - I'm ready for the jeers and hoots of derision...

I know what the manual states and I also own a 2016 Forester XT so I know how to do this. On the XT, easy. Only problem is it takes about 5 tries on the BRZ - up/down/up/down drives me crazy. Worried it will cause an accident by me trying to do this multiple times.

The Subaru dealer service rep told me a few months ago that he owns the Toyota version and "they are all like that". Whenever I hear this, I doubt the veracity of the statement.

Is there a secret technique or just have the dealer replace the switch? Or is this what makes the BRZ special?

Thanks!

Side Note: my previous 2011ForesterXT developed a weird trick that every third time I started the car, the driver's window would go all the way down by itself. A new set of switches cured that.

Practice. It takes loads of practice. Eventual you will find the sweet spot. I am still waiting to though.

There is nothing wrong with it. They are all like that.

ROFL, I thought it was broken when I first got it too. Maybe the sensor in our cars are a bit more sensitive than the one in the Forester?

At one point I had my mechanic friend come check it out too as I was never able to get it to function the way I hoped. It just took a week or two to get used to it.

Thanks Tcoat and Kev0! Appreciate the fun responses.

I posted my question and before your responses arrived, I went to the dealer. I purchased the BRZ July 31new and have just under 6000 miles. Last night I almost went off the road trying to get that window partially down. The last straw, so to speak, as I have been struggling with this issue for 6 months.

The dealer has a new 2020 BRZ so as a test, if that 2020 had the same window operation, I would live with it and indeed, "they are all like that". Very small sample but enough for me.

Test Results: Windows were perfect! Delightful! Easy to stop anywhere! I had to really try hard to screw it up. The dealer ordered the new switch and I have an appointment on Feb 7th to install it. I will of course post the results.

Thanks again.

My wife can't seem to get it right either, she sits there and moves it up and down and gives me the same line of shit every time about how horrible the switches are in my silly little car. I'd invest in the new switches if they're that much better just so I don't have to hear it from her anymore.

The switches have a hair trigger. Take a deep breath, let half of it out then pull the trigger -

It would be great if anyone else here can visit a Subaru dealer that has a 2020 BRZ in inventory and then try the window switch. Remember that a window switch is not a Stradivarius.

I really enjoyed the comments! Thanks.

FIXED under warranty! New window switches installed. Now both windows work the way they should. An inch down? No problem. Maybe only a half inch? Let me go back up just a teeny bit. No problem.

I cannot believe I lived with these window switches for the last 6 months.

I do not know whether this fix will work in someone else's BRZ but my 2019 Limited now has windows that do not mock me!

Happy days...

Glad it worked out! One does have to be careful adjusting these windows while moving. Maybe I'll visit the Subaru dealer here and check into replacing the ones in my 2014 FR-S. Would you happen to have the part number? Maybe on the work order? Thanks!

Remember this is a 2019 Limited BRZ and your car may have another part number. Or may not fix the issue at all. I was denied the replacement several times by the dealer until I insisted. Although the 2020 BRZ at the dealer had perfect window operation, would the part ordered be OK in MY car?

If I am reading my invoice correctly (big 'if'), this is the part number: 5941 B850-101, C850-001, UCH-43. I believe the whole module on the driver's side was replaced (left, right, window lock, door lock) according to the diagram the parts counter person showed me when he ordered it. Your car is another year and another make so the above number may be terribly wrong plus there may be additional parts. I am sure your dealer will have the correct number. And there is a chance replacing the switch module will not accomplish anything.

But it worked in my BRZ...
