The Delrin could then be press-secured by the two-piece core which screws together. This design should allow someone to interchange covers. Covers could come in a variety of leather types (perforated, non-perforated, Alcantara, etc) and maybe leather colors, or perhaps even contrasting colors for the leather and Delrin. For example, a black perforated leather with a red Delrin base that may show through the perforated holes.

Just an idea you can run with if you have hit a brick wall. IMO, something leather that has weight and quality hasn't been done, so this would be a home run if you can pull it off. My Momo shift knob, for instance, feels nice to the touch with the patinated perf leather, and it looks nice, but once in action it is sloppy, not notchy, and the aluminum hollow core makes the knob feel light and, because of that, cheap. I'm rooting for you guys.

This and one in alcantara please!

Thanks for the vote of confidence. The other hurdle is feasibility. For one thing, just screwing on a top and bottom piece could twist the leather. Two, I dont know how the core looks on the inside; there could be a large hollow section for the shift rod and adapters that would make this impossible. Hopefully not.

I think if the leather was put on like the TRD knobs it might work fairly well. Similarly it'd probably have to be wrapped like a sleeve around the cover but just to the tops and could have a plate on top to cover the extra left over inside. (almost exactly like the trd one)

I bought mine with the Mustang/fiesta lockout hole, sits lower than the OEM knob... The lockout hole is big, but my blox lockout cover filled the inside a bit.

Besides the light weight, the only thing I don't like about my Momo knob on my Lancer is the fact that it doesn't sit low, so the shift shaft is visible like on yours; it isn't recessed. I made a spacer out of tube aluminum to seat against the shifter better, but it really seems like they should have handled that. Moreover, it isn't perfect because of the covers on the bottom of the knobs, and just how it all works.

Are you only working on covers for the Ology and Tur cores? or are you also considering just a simple non-changeable stand alone knob?

The idea was to try and wrap a cover that would screw onto our existing cores BUT I just realized it is not feasible to have the stitching time out correctly with the shift gate pattern.

The other problem we are running into is getting the leather to wrap over the top opening in the cover. All the other leather shift knobs have a top cap for this exact reason.

The next idea is exactly what you have drawn up on the right. It needs to be a 2 piece core with a bottom and screw or bolt on top.

Back into Solidworks to figure it out!

I'm also working on stand alone shift knobs that are stainless steel and wrapped with leather or alcantara.
