Considering Lemon Law or similar
I've owned my 2015 AT FRS for close to 2 years now but as of now the car is leaking oil for the 2nd time. The first time it leaked was at approximately 36k miles. Toyota applied a new gasket and was ok for a while. Now it's leaking oil again after 7k miles. Ive also have taken it in for various TSB recalls like the AT hard shifting, HPFP replacement for the crickets and Idle hunt issue.
In short I have an extended warranty and I love my car but I've been having a lot of issues with it. Plus I've kind of been eyeing the new 2017 BRZ. Would appreciate any tips or opinions. At this point if Toyota re-applies the gasket and fails a third time I'm gonna be pissed. Edit: First oil leak was from a timing cover seal failure. Same issue for current oil leak.

Read your local laws on the matter.
Find a lemon law layer. You have an extended warranty... use it? It's not that easy to lemon a car, it needs to be for the same problem. You don't mention which gasket was repaired. |

First off, lemon law applies to the SAME exact issue recurring 3 times with the same failure. 2 times does not work, and it cannot be for an issue that is not detrimental to the drivability of the car. AT Hard shifting and idle hunt were just new flash tunes... and different successful repairs under TSB will be non issues in Subaru's perspective.
What's leaking oil? Is it the same leak reoccurring? |

Service reported that the oil was leaking from the timing cover at 36k. It's leaking from there again now.

I work at a dealer (Not Toyota/Subaru) and buy backs are more likely then lemon law, usually newer cars though.

I wouldn't mind a buyback option. But am I required to get the same car from the same dealer? I'm curious because if I follow through with the buyback option from Toyota can I go to Subaru after they take it back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Doubtful with the mileage and lack of actual drivability issue / same issues there is a "lemon law" case here.

OHHHH new shiny model out. How can I manipulate the system to get one?
Get the car fixed if there is a problem and if you really want a new one then take the hit and trade it.

That would require accepting responsibility for vehicle ownership. Millenials just cant wrap their heads around that.

OP: Bring your car back and get it fixed under warranty. You do not apply for the lemon law, you are just frustrated at the reliability of a non-drive ability related failure. If it bugs you, trade it in on a new one with the exact same gasket (down to the part number.) Or maybe an ACTUAL Toyota product, like a Camry. If it does not bug you, keep driving like nothing ever happened. There's a decent chance the tech did a bad job installing the gasket, or didn't clean the surface correctly. Express your displeasure that it's a return visit with the same issue to the service writer, and they can be sure one of their most competent techs does the work to see what the root cause is.

Again, I'm only considering buyback if my twin can't keep its shit together. I included an extended warranty when I financed it predicting problems would arise much later, but I didn't expect this soon in mileage. I'm just upset that the car leaked after 36k and again now.
