Found some news on motortrend
FT-86 – The much-anticipated spiritual successor to the ‘80s Corolla AE86 could arrive with 240 hp from a Subaru-sourced boxer engine equipped with a Toyota head. However, Automotive News thinks that the risk of competing with the versions from Scion and Subaru might prompt Toyota to release the car as a four-door coupe instead. We’re not sure about that, but at any rate, Toyota’s FT-86 is at least two years away.

I saw that this morning as well. With less and less news, rumours become more and more elaborate (240hp?, four doors?). MT also has a 2021 model prediction article that's quite funny as well.

I'm gonna start ignoring these articles unless the magazines post their sources. Toyota would shoot themselves in the foot delaying it 2 more years and making it a 4 door. bloody rumor spreaders...
Edit: actually, I wonder if they're paid by a toyota competitor to spread mis-information so people would give up waiting and buy something else....

4 door coupe? a la RX-8? That would be an interesting change of events... Subie comes out with the coupe now and Toyota sits back to observe sales while working on their "4 door coupe" version... doubtful, but interesting.

That's ridiculous. If anything the Subaru would be more likely as a 4-door coupe, because Toyota's version will be getting released first. It's deep into the preproduction phase, they're not going to all of a sudden scrap the car now and go back to square one. They'd be losing so much money doing that.

A 4 door would ruin this car for me and I do not believe in this crap news. Also that 240hp figure sounds like BS.

Looks like they've run out of ideas for high-quality BS and are now resorting to crappy BS instead.

I wouldn't mind 4 doors. o_O I wouldn't have to deal with a small blind spot then. Lol
