I meant to add a follow up to this, but I got distracted. The wiring DID cause issues for me as well. Powering the V with both the running lights AND the brake light caused feedback in the system that affected other lights (center console and parking/indicator lights for me).

The solution was to take the V off the brake light. That means I connected the red wire directly to the green wire so that it doesn't touch the board at all. Straight up red to green. I've had no problems since then.

coool

Thanks for the solution.
Will find time to pull the 4th light to fix it up.
For now i just disconnect the brake light form splice to the rear tail light.

Ya i notice it a while back, but just didn't really pay much attention to it because it see so minor. Until i Drove behind a black truck and see my boomerang light turn on and off when step on and release broke.

But on the BRZ..

If you wire it up like how it is in my image.

The moment you step on brake.(well at least on my car)
The boomerang light and side marker will turn on. Also at the same time The clock display go blank.. and the air bag and driver seat sing on the right hand side of the clock will dim.

When you release the brake,
Clock display come back and other light not dimmed.
Boomerang light and side marker goes off.

Thex to Mchanteen1 one for the solution too

Hey all, I am looking into getting this reverse light, but I have a a few questions about it. What lights work with just the plug that comes with the reverse bar (if I don't wire anything)? I only really want the reverse lights and the V to glow when the headlights are on to match my Valenti tails. I don't care about the extra brake light.

If I remember correctly, the v and the triangle come on with parking lights and stay on with head lights, but then the triangle flashes with braking.

Most people rewire it so that the triangle turns off until braking so that the V is more distinct.

Wrote up a how-to, although its been discussed before. A lot of good info in the thread, but variances in photos etc makes it confusing.

DIY:Valenti 3rd/4th Brake Light Mod-Separate Brake light Triangle-2 Options -Video

Video shows all three lighting variations that are typically used though.

As a visual learner, I'm really heart broken that most of the pictures in the original post are now broken.

I do not like how the Valenti 4th brake lights function as they come. Solid -v- on with running/headlights and a red triangle with brakes (flashing or not flashing, I don't care) is what I prefer. That seems to be how everyone likes them to function.

I show how in the video here:

I have NOT had consistent luck with trying to keep the "flashing". But method 3 has been solid so far.

Third option is also a very good solution! Any quirks to the third wiring method? Does the second method stop flashing after a while or something?

the issue with the 2nd method is that for some reason, it doesn't always work on cars. But, its a "works or it doesnt" situation. So if you kinda wanted the flashing, you could always try it.

I THINK something is different between some of the lights (internally on the board), and so I ran into the issue of the "brake" light not lighting up (well, it does, but its very very dim).

The 3rd method has always worked, on every single unit I've tested/modified.

Well, at least there is a solid option! Thanks for making the guide. Will have to crack open my Valenti light soon and do some soldering.

No prob! The other "electrical/light" guru and I were stumped-we would literally get different results with the 2nd method. We would bench test, and it would be fine. But install it, and issues. Something with ohms, resistance and phase of the moon (lol). It seems to be light specific however. I would modify 3-4 at a time, and only 1 would have the problem. But 25% is too much when we're shipping.

Sounds like something got tweaked-trace the green/real wore from the connector to the light. If that's good, something inside the light got disconnected/wired wrong.
