the first 86 program was given by name. You can buy all the stuff the first 86 ppl got and say yours is a first 86 and no one can prove you wrong.
Not all the stuff...and could be proven wrong!

Not a box for storage, a box for display. Like something you'd hang on a wall in a man cave.

Got it, and a cool idea. I've thought about storing some of it in the CNC 86 box we got....

It might make a difference in 30 years, but probably not in the near future.

As per the Scion rep I spoke to. Scion first 86 program has nothing to do with VIN nor do they have a record of them. Ill link the convo with them in alittle. Reason I contacted them is because my dealer told me the car was a first 86 but the guy didnt want it. So I contacted them to find out. They told me there is no way of finding out since the first 86 program has no VINs associted with it. Just ppls names.

True, if the person didn't buy the car, it is not a 1st86 car. What the rep told you is correct. I don't think any of us would dispute that, it wasn't a 1st86 car.

It was a combination of the two that made it work. Technically, a person who was selected but didn't but the car is still a "First 86" person, but I don't know that it matters. What Scion should have done is offer it to the next person on the "standby" list, but I think by the time they got that far they had worn through any publicity they expected to get out of it and it sort of fizzled out.

In the end, Scion knows I was First 86, and Scion knows what VIN I purchased when offered to me. I know this because I have received things from Scion that were clearly independently based on those two things.

My point was even if the information is not linked, it could be figured out. In the end though, it was just a great Marketing event, nothing more.

The cars sold in this program are no more special then the cars you can purchase today off the lot.

Agreed cars are no different, we just got loaded up w/ a BA Experience and lots of cool stuff from Scion w/ it. I was pretty impressed , but I think originally it would of been the icing on the cake if they were badged with a number plaque inside, instead of the basic 1st 86 ones we got at the end for coin tray/ glove box. But other than that, was pretty cool experience

Agreed, but I'm pleasantly surprised with everything they did for us. I was never loyal to Toyota or Scion - I was always a Honda guy - but after this experience I'm really impressed by them. I'm still bummed I didn't get to go on the trip, but the timing just didn't work in my favor.

I wonder if it will vary from person to person. They didn't have to pay for my air fair. I drove myself there.

Fro what I understood it was the value of the airfare and hotel so it will undoubtedly vary.

My 1099 will be higher than most. My connection flight home got cancelled due to bad weather. American Airlines told me that every flight home for the following 2 days was booked. I had to rent a car and drive the final 500 miles. Beyond Marketing covered this additional expense for me.
