On the Scion side of things, my 2016 head unit will only display album art when using the USB port if it's in the Gracenote database that the Pioneer unit in the FR-S apparently uses. Otherwise, I get some random pic related to the band, or just a generic pic. Makes no difference if the album art is embedded in the id3 tag or just in the folder for the album. It won't use it.

I guess that's at least a step up over the Subaru stereo where you get nothing, but it's still poor in both cases.

Try a faster USB drive. I have a microsd USB adapter with a class 10 card in it. I noticed the headunit buffers the song first, then loads the artwork. If it can't load the songs fast enough, it might not be able to load the artwork before having to buffer again.

my 2016 FRS HU displays Album art via Gracenote but not via Bluetooth to my knowledge. ALl of my album art plays on my GNote 3. All tagged correctly.

After lots of testing, including multiple album art jpg sizes , resolutions, inserting via various mp3 id3 tagging software, various usb thumb drives all of different speeds and makes. The 2016 BRZ HU will not display album art via USB.

It will display through an Ipod or Android device via usb.
So I got a 4th gen Ipod Touch on Ebay for 12 bucks (battery won't hold charge) and so far leaving it plugged in has been working great.

I grab songs from Itunes straight to USB and they work, or I go into explorer view, get music file, and add picture straight to there. Jpeg. It works without a problem.

You're lucky I was adding new music to my USB.

Before, just straight ripped song from CD

After, went back into iTunes/Windows explorer, found file, right clicked and added album art. .Jpeg

PackofCrows and g33k, thanks for the reply. But the 2016 BRZ has a different Headunit from the one you've posted in your pics. The older units do display album art from USB thumb drives the newer ones at least the 2016 brz model will not. Thanks for the assist though.
