Maybe making it “thinner” to clear a wheel is more costly. I dunno.

I emailed them and their response didn’t really make any sense, but oh well, good I didn’t buy the stage 3 or 4 kits.

What was their response?

I always thought that was weird about the stage III/IV Kit’s vs I/II + extra rotors price. Not that I’m complaining as I went for the cheaper and when I change rotors I’ll upgrade to the 2 piece ones at same total price.

We updated the price of the replacement rotors. However, it is possible that if you looked at this rotors in the past, the old price was cached on your browser. If you would have selected this product into your shopping cart, it would have pulled the updated price. I ran an update on the system to force to refresh the information. Please check now.

However, you are still correct. The price of stage 2 kit plus upgraded rotors is still lower than the price of stage 4. The reason for this is that we make very little margin on the rotors to encourage customers to upgrade.

Thank you!
That second paragraph essentially says that they are making the price of entry so cheap, so that people start buying the two-piece rotors, probably because the replacement outer shells of the two-piece rotors are more expensive than the one piece replacements. It still seems odd to make them so cheap that buying more costs less. Oh well.

------------------

The other thing that is a bummer is that the rear performance setup is not upgradable to two-piece rotors. I didn't want the BBK rears because of too much rear bias. At least, that is what others said.

The shop I've been working with up here in Canada was going to put an RR racing upgrade on my car, but they were being jerked around on price.

They negotiated a wholesale deal but when they went to order, RR racing reneged on the discounts promised. Then, when they tried to have rotors omitted from kits to lower the significant shipping costs to another country, RR racing would only credit back $60 PER ROTOR.

Based on this, they seem slimey to me.

I’m currently running stage 1 with solid slotted rotors and BP20 pads, stock rear callipers and hawk hp+ pads.
Thinking about upgrading to rear sport performance package, curious to what PAD COMBOS people are running?
Car sees nearly all track.

What have you guys done to prevent rust on the front rotors? The inner areas that the pads don't touch have a ton of rust after a few months.

Looking at VHT Caliper Paint, but I'm open to other recommendations.

It's rust! All brake rotors rust. They will Rust immediately after washing your car if you don't drive it within 2 days

Looks like they fixed the rust issue by leaving the outside painted, so the rotor will be protected where the pad does not make contact.

I realize this is an old message. But I have stage 2 on the front and found considerable improvement when I went to HP+ both front and rear over what you’re running now.

Well, I'm jealous. After two attempts at painting mine, I'm finally happy with the result, but the process was a pain. I'll see if I can post pics later.

In other news, I'm now in the same position as cruizin01. The brakes have become noisy as hell when braking at low speeds. I generally just avoid hard braking, but if I end up braking on a hill (which Seattle is full of), the sound is ear-splitting. Not sure what to do if other pads didn't help.

It's not nearly as annoying, but I've also noticed that my fronts make a "pop" sound when lightly engaging them at low speeds.

Just picked up a slightly used set of Stage II fronts and Sport rears. So far so good. Headed to the track this weekend to really test them.

Just thinking about maintenance: Anyone know what year STI the Rear Sport kit rotors are off of? I saw it somewhere in this thread but now I can't find it.

Nice buy. You're going to love the improvement over stock.

For future reference.

The front rotors are from a 2004 STI OR a 2017+ 86/BRZ with the Performance Package. Easy no issues there. Edit: Centric part number 12147019

The REAR ROTORS ARE NOT FROM A 2004 STI as stated on the website and in this thread. They are too wide and the inside of the rotor hits the backing plate before mounting to the hub. The correct rotors are from a 2008-2017 STI. However, if you purchase regular brand 08-17 STI rotors the bolt pattern will be wrong (5x114.3). DBA dual drills those rotors for 5x100 applications. DBA Part# 42656S-10.

The 2017+ 86/BRZ with the Performance Package has the correct rear rotors for this kit as well but are difficult to find as of writing this. Edit: Centric part number 12147043

This information has been confirmed with RR-Racing
